I use the terms "East Asian," "South Asian" and "Middle Eastern" when referring to people from different parts of Asia.

It makes absolutely no sense to use Asians while referring to everyone residing on the Asian continent (which includes the middle east, South Asia, even a large part of Turkey etc.)
But most of Southeast Asia has a more Indian-influenced culture than Chinese-influenced

I usually use 'Northeast Asian'', "Southeast Asian", "South Asian", "MIddle Easterner", etc.

I think I'm least likely to think of Middle Easterners when I think of Asia. It always throws me off when I read things from a British respective, and they refer to their 'Asians' and it usually means Pakistan/India.
