After more than 30 years, China will "fine tune" its one-child policy, writes San Juan at China Daily. Details haven't been released yet, but it's clear the government is considering ways to relax the restriction. That might be a wise idea: If the Chinese Communist Party wants to maintain economic growth and maintain its hold on power, an overhaul of the policy is a clear necessity.

The Chinese Communist Party should end the one-child policy — for its own sake - The Week

They will have to change that policy. They already have a huge demographic problem with few young workers to take care of the elderly wave going to hit in a few years but they also have a male/female imbalance due to the tradition of the eldest son taking care of the parents.

When I was in China a few months ago I heard a rumor about the possible change in policy that that couple where both people are only children will be able to have 2 children (rather than only one).

This has been practiced in China for a few years. Not new.

But noone mentioned how the 40 to 50 million men without wives and the potential violence they may cause will also contribute to solving the population problem, which is what this policy is designed to do.

Yeah that may cause a big problem. I also think you'll see Chinese men with means getting wives in the poorer Asian countries but no hope for the poor Chinese men.

Marriage is becoming increasingly irrelevant. This is a complete non issue.

Not in China. If you don't get married in China, then you can't have children. If you do, then your child won't get a hukou and hence won't have much rights.

I think they are going to keep the policy, but relax it. They have already told what they are planning to do. If one of the parents is a single child, then they will be allowed to have two children. In the past, both of the parents had to be single children. They do it this way, because they want to limit the growth of areas who are not very developed.

I recently read an article stating that India will overtake China in population in the next 10-15 years.
