Would you rather live in METRO Manila or METRO Kuala Lumpur?

Using the key word, METRO, as it opens up to a much larger area. For example, Manila isn't that nice itself, but the suburbs all around it, can be quite nice.

Anyways, if you were to choose one to live in, (and you had an independent money source not connected to the local economy), which would you prefer and why?

Metro Manila absolutely!!
I rather don't like muslim society due to their strong restrictions
Manila is colorful,open society ,more international (coz their native language ),full with friendliness,cheaper, beautiful beach.

Kuala Lumpur of course

Better infrastructure, better food, better security, better transportation, better economy, more diversity, more green and no floods!
The strong restrictions only applies to the Muslims, so I have no trouble with that.
Yes it's harder to get alcohol over there and it's more expensive, but it's available!

Metro Manila... the roads uhm let me just stop here
However I do think the people there smile more than in the Metro KL area.

I've been living in Metro Manila since 1996 so Metro Manila is like my 2nd home from my original place where I was born and raised in the Philippines and I've never been in Malaysia but based from the Photos I've seen about Malaysia or Metro Kuala Lumpur, I know Malaysia is a great place to stay too.

Metro Manila shouldn't be thought of as Manila + a bunch of suburbs. It's not like that. The "cities" in Metro Manila are comparable to the boroughs of New York City, except there's 17 of them.

KL is cleaner, more developed, less floods and disasters, better food, less corruption, established Common Law. English is about equally spoken in both. Still, living in a Muslim majority culture (Malaysia) that favors Muslims in interactions with others creates a tension and separation for non-Muslims there imo. Despite its obvious flaws, the friendliness of the Filipinos makes Manila livable and fun.

My closed friend who is an elective student came to Kualalumpur last year , he assures that Kualalumpur is so neat, cleaner,good transportation. Something bothered him all the time is the strong body odour from indian and muslim due to prohibition of using roll on or perfume

I agree that KL is cleaner with "better food", "better infrastructure" and "more green". But what kind of work are you going to do there? Malaysia is a small country-focused economy and would not be a good place for people with ambition. Companies operating out of Metro Manila on the other hand are more outward-looking and is more suitable for ambitious people looking for global responsiblities.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that before, about Manila's suburbs being more like NYC boroughs. Do you 'feel' completely different characteristics in the different ones?

I've spent time in Manila (Ermite/Malate) and Makati....but only seen a little bit of some of the others. Which are some of the more unique or top interesting ones, that you'd say? And why?

The best places to buy a house are in Manila south of the Pasig River, notably San Marcelino, UP Villiage in Quezon City and the adjacent "project" subdivisions. I've heard good feedback about Fairview but homeowners there would need to install water tanks.
