Do you think the caste distinctions in India are becoming less strict? Or is caste still a hugely important force in India? It seems it is, but do you think it will disappear within the foreseeable future? In some ways India remains solidly Indian - I mean 5,000 years of Brahmin domination isn't that easy to get rid of.
No, it has actually become more recalcitrant. I was born a dung collector and continue in this role in the US. I will gladly scoop the poop out of your toilet for $1. Just the other day, I had to viciously beat what they call a "plumber" for attempting to break into my racket. I might have pay a visit to the folks that give the ability for these toilets to flush as well.
