I happened across this information: India has more universities, both government and private than any other country. 8,407. The US is second, with 5,758 and Argentina third with 1,705. The information is in a Trivia question, but after checking on Google, Wikipedia says India is third, after the US and China. I've read that Wikipedia is not always reliable, so I wonder which it is.
but its not like all universities are included on the listing, beside i think China got to be atleast the third considering their population size IMO.... but Brazil is 2nd on the list.
I think a lot of variation can come from how "university" is defined.
