After the horrors of the 1970s Cambodia statistically is improving but still lags behind all of SE Asia except for Burma. Anyone on here that has recently visited or is from there how are things there?
I was there for a short time about 5 years ago, but it was in a tourist area (the infamous "Snookiville").
Even there, there is extreme poverty that I saw, and yes that is even in comparison to other developing SE Asian countries. The killing fields of the 80s are long over but still up until the early 90s there were invasions by Vietnam and power struggles between this and that faction. It's improving as I understand it, but in some ways it's still acting like a Vietnam 2nd hand client state.
