I don't see any risk for Chinese government. Without US intervention, it is a matter of hours before TW surrenders. TW's military is a joke, and taiwanese have no will to fight. Check their own polling,
less than 1% of the population is wiling to join the military if the war breaks.
What China is doing with TW is very effective. Look at TW's economy over the past 10 years. It is a slow death for TW if it does not reunite.
That's the point. You don't care about the people. Only the Chinese government. Not a single thought or word for those millions of people. You're so happy about their slow death that you perceive, but in reality its not happening.
why would we care about those taiwanese if they don't admit they are chinese?

Then why do you care so much about what happens to them, just leave them alone and stop trying to ruin their country. Taiwans economy is still growing fast between 5-10%. At least pretend like you care about human life. You're destroying everyone's opinion of China. China isn't a bad place, but you make Chinese people look horrible. Many Americans and other foreigners don't understand China and I can understand defending your country, but your are making people think even worse things about China and Chinese people.
Taiwanese just don't want to be bothered by that mainland China rubbish and live in peace. I hope the US government will have the guts to support their allies.
It is quite natural by the way, that more developed countries have a slower growth than countries that yet have some growth potential. One of the reasons that its economy is not doing that well actually is China doing anything against a fair competition and free trade of Taiwan with other countries.
Other than slightly unhappy about the news, people in Taiwan are not much affected.
Not too many Taiwanese live in Panama any way. Shipping giant like Evergreen in Panama will likely be business as usual. Maybe there will be more PRC flags than ROC flags hoisting in the Chinatown in Panama City.
Taiwan is actually faring better now diplomatically than when it had diplomatic relationship with 40, 50, 60,...countries.
During the recent decades, Taiwanese has gained visa free access to many important countries like US, all EU countries, Japan,.....etc. That is utmost important for Taiwan to maintain contact with much of the world.
In comparison, North Korea maintains diplomatic relationship with at least 47 countries. But can their citizens go anywhere without visa?
Though it is out of topic, it is silly for Beijing to insist on "One China" upon other countries. (Taipei wouldn't mind Beijing establish diplomatic relationship with any country as long as it does not force that country to disrupt diplomatic relationship with Taipei.)
When Beijing claims that any country plays with "Two Chinas" or "One China One Taiwan" would hurt the "passion of every Chinese", do they realize that when it plays along the "Two Koreas" for decades, it also hurts the "passion of every Korean"?
So now it backfires with North Korea @#$% China on its official media and South Korea installing THAAD, does Beijing realize that is a consequence of its hypocritical and pathetic "Two Korea" policy?
With all that stubborn behaviour, China just wants to appear more important than it really is. It is fascinating how a country wants to tell other countries with whom they are allowed to trade or not.
Of course, cannot be compared to Korea, because it is compleeeeeeeeeeetely different situation will be the answer.
China certainly has been on the move with diplomacy and trade around the world in recent years. These new alliances and trade agreements are often sweetened with economic aid packages. We now have a developing economic and military super power firmly entrenched in a country with one of the most important waterways in the world namely the Panama Canal. I just wonder if China might be able to secure control of the Canal in the same way that the US did with the Canal Zone. That would have major geo political implications in the world wide balance of power.

The thing is, it doesn't effect trade or visa policies. Panama isn't ending any trade with Taiwan and Panamians can still go to Taiwan. Taiwanese ships can still go through the Panama Canal. The embassy changes to a trade mission, that's about it.

The US secured the Panama Canal Zone because we built it. Panama will never give up the Canal Zone now, that would be beyond stupid. Panama is in control of the Canal just like they should be. It's nore likely China will build a Canal elsewhere in Central America, but I don't see that happening either.
