Japan is the Germany of Asia.
China is the Russia of Asia.
Korea is the Poland of Asia.
Singapore is the Switzerland of Asia.

Germany:
1.Prussia's Bismarck unifies Germany
2.Prussia has a deeply ingrained culture of honor and militarism
3.Hitler commits attrocities against "subhumans" including the Holocaust as well as
brutal enslavement and murder of millions of Soviet POWs
4. Germany comes out of WWII as a high-tech and automotive leader
5. Germans are very united, cooperative, and nationalistic as a people
6. Germans are also very proud of their traditions and history:
most of their cities were bombed to smithereens during WWII, but they painstakingly
restored entire historic cities to their former glory.
7. Punctuality, diligence, and cleanliness is paramount in Germany.
8. Germany is late to the game of colonization but eventually does muster some colonies
9. The Nazis believed in white supremacy

Japan:
1. Tokugawa Ieyasu unifies unifies Japan.
2. Japan's Bushido promotes honor and militarism (unfortunately to a suicidal extreme)
3. Imperial Japan kills at least as many people in Asia as the Nazis did in Europe, torturing their POWs
and civilians. Unlike Germany, Japan still has not formally apologized, and many nationalists downplay or deny the atrocities, omitting them from history texts.
4. Japan emerges out of WWII as a high-tech and automotive leader
5. The Japanese are a very united, cooperative, and nationalistic people
6. The Japanese are very proud of their traditions and history: most cities were bombed during WWII, but they painstakingly restored entire historic cities to their former glory.
7. Punctuality, diligence, and cleanliness is paramount in Japan.
8. Japan is late to the game of colonization but eventually does muster some colonies
9. State Shinto in Japan says the Japanese are descended from gods and are therefore superior to other
races

Russia:
1. A technological backwater from 1800-late 20th century, stuck in serfdom until 1861. Tragic, tragic history.
2. Brutal Communist regime that tears apart tradition and history
3. Soviets lose more people than any other country during WWII in Europe, due to German invasion.
4. Though poor, they manage to churn out top-notch mathematicians, scientists, and engineers and technology, from the space race to present day cyber-espionage.
5. Russia's "democracy" is weak and short-lived. Putin arrives and turns it into a autocratic state.
6. Rich Russian investors buy up property like crazy in Europe and have very kitschy, noveau riche, tastes.
7. Russia keeps encroaching on Georgia and Ukraine.
8. State capitalism

China:
1. A technological backwater from 1800 to late 20th century, engulfed by the Opium Wars, Taiping Rebellion, etc. Tragic, tragic history.
2. Brutal Communist regime that tears apart tradition and history
3. The Chinese lose more people than any other country during WWII in Asia, due to Japanese invasion.
4. Though poor, they manage to churn out top-notch mathematicians, scientists, and engineers and technology, from aerospace to present day cyber-espionage, AI, etc.
5. China never has any democracy (outside of Taiwan). Xi Jinping and Putin are buddies and fellow strongmen who stay in power indefinitely.
6. Rich Chinese investors buy up property like crazy in Europe and have very kitschy, noveau riche, tastes.
7. China keeps encroaching on Hong Kong and Taiwan.
8. State capitalism

Poland:
1. A fiercely patriotic people
2. Germany and Russia kept fighting over it
3. Poland was once quite strong and formed a united kingdom with its smaller neighbor, Lithuania.

Korea:
1. A fiercely patriotic people
2. Japan and China kept fighting over it
3. Korea was once quite strong and formed a united kingdom with its smaller neighbor, Manchuria.

Switzerland:

1. Neutral
2. Four official languages
3. Tax haven
4. Incredibly safe, clean, well-planned, environmental, and efficient. Transparent government.
5. All adult males are conscripted

Singapore:

1. Not officially neutral, but basically acts like it, always striking a middle ground (Trump/Kim Jong Un summit was held in Singapore)
2. Four official languages
3. Tax haven
4. Incredibly safe, clean, well-planned, environmental, and efficient. Transparent government.
5. All adult males are conscripted

Do you agree with the above? What other Asian countries have European equivalents?

I know this is just for fun and not really super academic study but even so these are absurd generalizations. How do you make the parallel Poland - Korea for example?

Poland: mostly catholic, among the most religious in europe;
Korea: 20% christian and the rest buddhist with some atheists...
Korea: economy bigger than russia, top 11th (10th?) economy overall - Poland, not even top in V4...
Polish: slavic language, Korean: language isolate...no similarity to Japanese or Chinese

etc etc. The only similarity with eastern europe being the monocultural thing, aka: single race and language.

And the same can be said about Germany - Japan...

I agree about China - Russia though, again given the not-too-serious discussion despite the obvious differences in this case too.

Of course, don't take this comparison too seriously. Of course, Japanese eat sushi and Germans eat bratwurst, etc. BUT put it this way: If there is ONE nation in Asia that is most like Germany, which nation is it? For me, it's Japan by a long shot. Same with Singapore as being the Switzerland of Asia, aside from the vastly different climate.

Only because of Spain colonizing the Philippines. Otherwise, the two are very different. Philippines is a poor third world country while Spain is a wealthy, first-world, G20 economy. Spain has a Mediterranean/semi-arid climate while Philippines has a tropical island climate.

30% Korean vocabulary are from Chinese. In some domains (law, literature, etc.) it is said to be 70%.
I know Korean is not a Sino-Tibetan language.

It's silly to draw these parallels. There will be similar aspects between different continents but 99% of the times there's nothing similar between European and Asian countries.

Sorry, they are too exotic and just entirely separate to ever group them together in that exact form overly easily. A logical reason why another Continent is in official titles naming labels. If there is ever a theme to combine, quite very obscure or vague. Even with Globalization and migration tons of possible realistically applicable exchange, not enough overlapping of twin similarities. And then when there are some occurrences, only in some areas of a country. Only some samples are relevant.
