Scary.

‘We’re Almost Extinct’: China’s Investigative Journalists Are Silenced Under Xi

“The space for free speech has become so limited,” Zhang, 45, said. “It’s now dangerous to say you are an independent journalist.”

Do you think there are any investigative journalists in the USA? That got replaced by stenographic reporting sometime after the Vietnam war.

News is easier to make, than to find. And the media will buy the cheapest commodity produced by unskilled workers, just enough to fill the time-slot.. US, China, it's all the same.

You know what is even easier? Say that the US and China are the same based on some void rhetoric. How many journalists are currently jailed by the US government?

The only respect in which I implied equality was the absence of investigative journalism. Not the causation. The US achieved the same end with greed, that the Chines got through intimidation. Both work.

My stepdaughter was one of hundreds of credentialed working American journalist arreste while on the job durung the Cheney/Rumsfeld reign of terror.

Yeah but..."has become"??? It should be "has always". Investigative journalism has always been a rare and dangerous occupation in China Peoples Republic of. Imagine how it was under Mao, imagine how it was during the Tienanmen protests in the late 80s.

You just can't help yourself can you? Why is every thread here turn to "Yes but forget all that, the US is doing this...". Yes the media in the US sucks but the title of the top of this forum says "A-S-I-A".

There is quite a difference between a journalist being arrested in the U.S. for a couple of hours because of Dick Cheney's "orders" compared to many Chinese journalists now being beaten and jailed for years.

The tightening grip going on right now in China is very scary.

Why even make comments if you don't know what your talking about.

You are just encouraging him to respond with more nonsense.

There is no comparison here so let's just discuss China....

I was asked how many US reporters are jailed. Here is a list. How many have you heard of?

You may now "just discuss" your China-bashing.
