There's an area in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan called Shinjuku Ni-Chome that is pretty popular with the gay community. I have an American friend who is gay and lives here who says it is much easier to be gay in Japan than in the US, because while LGBT rights are not as full fledged and supported as in the West, there is no strong feelings against it either, with people being rather indifferent as they do not have any religious reason to dislike the idea of gay marriage so much. However, on the other hand, because Japanese people are rather prone to blend in and not stick out, there is not a lot of gung ho-ness of support either.

I have an LGBT friend that has lived in Japan for around a decade. She says it is tolerant in terms of not being physically attacked but gay 'culture' or communities among native Japan are nearly non existent. Still, she loves living in Japan overall.
My wife is from Phillipines. She often jokes that there are a lot of very lonely filipinas because so many of the men are gay. Phillipines is very accepting.
but you must put up with all the jokes or snide remarks, especially from old school men.
other than that, gays are just part of life in the Philippines.
had a boss before who, when talking with people he doesnt know, had to pretend he is a straight guy but once in the company of his friends and acquaintances, he is gay and jolly.
Is there anywhere outside of Asia and the Pacific Islands where a portion of the local population will not make disparaging remarks against outwardly gay people and those whose behaviours don't conform to the idealized gender norms? Even when they face possible criminal correction for doing so. It still happens, even where governments allow for same sex marriage
In the Philippines specifically, since Pinoys are saying what about some macho men, popular entertainment almost always have a flamboyantly out chacarter among the cast as well as headline many talk shows and variety broadcast.
