26 cases so far but public continues to regard the situation as under control so it's still largely business as usual. If you come though bring plenty of face masks as vast majority of people in public wearing masks now and expect it of others.

Patient 19, who died, was an airport limo driver who contracted virus from visitor from China. He then passed it on to family members 20 through 26. His sister exposed her company of 50 to the virus and they're in quarantine now.

Not all but some of taiwan's industries are badly affected by the global travel restrictions and possible global economic recession. Those not understanding economy or not welcoming tourists are happy.

Taiwan's government will give out cash, but many Taiwanese complain the cash won't be given to everyone, unlike the more generous Singapore, US, Macau and HK. Taiwan officials taught people to reuse disposable masks after a claimed effective way to disinfect used masks when other officials in Asia did not teach or said disposable masks cannot be disinfected for reuse.

And they don't give out enough masks. Residents elsewhere in Asia can have cheap masks bought weekly or free of charge. Taiwan's officials should check carefully before saying taiwan's masks are the cheapest.

May be due to Taiwan's government being more poor than others in the last few decades with less money per capita . Taiwan is not able to provide enough to satisfy the people's needs.

Well Taiwan's done this by some pretty stringent entry/exit measures which have really put a hurt on the travel industry, especially the main airlines, China Airlines and Eva Air.

They stopped allowing transit passengers in Taiwan - only O/D flights.

They've pretty much barred foreigners other than resident permit holders, from entering Taiwan. Anyone allowed entry into Taiwan is subject to a 14 day quarantine.

Taiwan is a leader in making masks. I think countries should look to Taiwan for this as much as possible and not to mainland China.

Taiwan is one of only three countries where schools at all levels are still open.

Quote:
Taipei, April 8 (CNA) Taiwan's government has decided to requisition 3 million N95 masks per month - the country's total monthly output - to ensure a stable supply for medical workers amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, a Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) official said Wednesday.

On average, medical workers in Taiwan use 30,000 to 40,000 N95 masks a day, and there are no worries at present about a shortage of supply, the MOEA official, who declined to be named, told CNA.

Nonetheless, the government is still requisitioning the masks -- 1.5 million every two weeks -- based on advice from Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to ensure the safety of medical personnel, the official said.

The official did not offer any further explanation of why the CDC felt it necessary to requestion Taiwan's total domestic N95 mask capacity given that domestic demand has fallen far short of that.

The four companies in Taiwan capable of producing N95 masks have a combined capacity of 100,000 to 105,000 per day, the official said.

That capacity will go up by about 20,000 N95 masks a day when one of the four producers adds new production lines by the end of April, according to the official.

Right now not wearing masks in some train systems in Taiwan is illegal.
In other places in asia and the world, passengers without masks are refused to enter.

Taiwan is not a place attracting tourists, factory owners and importers because of very cheap costs.

Most places in asia and the world are developing countries having cheaper production cost than Taiwan . These places poorer than Taiwan don't buy masks from Taiwan if they can produce masks cheaper than Taiwan or can get cheap masks from other developing countries.

South Korea produces high quality masks with many positive comments but the costs are expensive for most people in the world.

Masks can only be widely used in our world if they are affordable, available and the quantities enough for everyone.

I wish we would apply something like that here where I live in Canada. One problem is though, masks are really hard to come by right now. I have a few that my wife picked up from her job and I just ordered some online, but stores have all been sold out for a month now.

Countries that make masks clamped down on exporting them in January. The loophole was that it was still possible to buy the machines that mass produce surgical masks for around $100k U.S. and 60 to 75 days build time. The U.S. and Canada could have such machines in operation now churning out millions of surgical masks if they had any sense. I contacted machine manufacturers here in Taiwan when I observed the efficacy of universal mask wearing firsthand and then contacted numerous organizations in the U.S. offering to put them in contact with these companies but received zero response.
