In a few sentences what is the deal with the Palestinians and Israel?

Who is the aggressor? Why? When did this begin?

Israel is a Jewish ethnostate on historically-Jewish lands that was carved out of lands occupied by the Palestinians in the earlier part of the 20th century.

The Israelis and Palestinians have been in a constant state of fighting since Israel formed in 1947. Pretty much any time that the Palestinians (or other neighboring Arab nations) have started a major attack against Israel, at the end of it, they lose and Israeli gets more territory.

The Palestinian leadership has declared they they will never recognize Israel and ultimately hope to destroy them and attacks Israel constantly. Israel responds with heavy military attacks in Palestinian territory.

Palestine is ruled by a terrorist group called hezbollah
They took power there was no election
Hezbollah wages a war on Israel
The intent is not peace but extermination Israel is not buying it

The Gaza Strip is basically administered at the moment by HAMAS, whose senior leadership is all in Qatar. The mid and low level leadership they have on the ground can be killed by Israeli drone strikes at any time.

The West Bank is ruled by the Palestinian Authority, which almost always means the relatively moderate Fatah party. The conflict is far from over-- it´ll probably go on for as long as we´re all alive. But if one were to visit Ramallah/Bethlehem/Nablus in the West Bank and then compare it to life in Gaza, I think we can see that the Arabs will be nudged in the direction of cooperation and moderation of extremist views in the wake of superior technology and firepower of Israel. Most of the regional powers lke Egypt are silent when Hamas and even more extreme militant groups lob rockets into Israel...Gaza is the pariah of the Middle East.

Israel came into existence as a country in May of 1948. The Arabs didn't like that idea so all the bordering countries started a war to annihilate the Jews of Israel. Somehow the Arabs lost the war and Armistice lines were drawn in 1949. From 1949 to 1967 there were no Palestinians as the Arab sides of the Armistice were annexed by Egypt and Jordan. In 1964 Jordan created a terrorist group called the PLO. The 'P' stood for Palestine and not Palestinian. Thus it was not for the liberation of Palestinians from Jordan, but for removal of Israel. In 1967 there was another war and for whatever reason all the Arab countries lost again. But this time around the lands annexed by Egypt & Jordan fell under Israeli control.

So who is the aggressor at this point? Everyone outside of the region where both exist. As long as the world keeps a shining light on them, then the atrocities in their own countries get sidelined as background noise.

Oh man you are going to get so many opinions.
When did it begin? You are talking pre-history, Iron Age, when various tribes started settling the region and competing for resources.
Palestine is now considered a "state", occupied by Israel since the 6 day war.

The problem now (in my opinion) is that Palestine that has been so used and abused that it is barely functional as a government and society. Not used by Israel, but by other Arab states to initiate this or that proxy war against Israel. Hezbollah and Hamas, recognized terrorist groups and with representation in Palestinian government (Gaza strip is also Hamas managed) are Iran supported and armed. The population lives by Arab support and funding that keep them in a state of dependency and poverty. The results is some 30% unemployment and a population filled with angry young males with no job and no future that see Israel as the enemy. And Hezbollah and Hamas covenants in the founding charter is clearly stated - the destruction of Israel (which would naturally include the murder of every man, woman, and child in Israel). You can't get more obvious then that.

Israels policy regarding Palestine is generally mutual recognition but distrust. Palestine (and the west bank) is also a buffer of sorts from the other Arab countries. Palestine fires Iran supplied rockets into Israel every so often, or a Palestinian comes into Israel to shoot up a school bus and throw grenades now and then, then naturally Israel retribution. Palestine is always on the losing side of any conflict, which just makes them angrier.

The solution eventually is Palestinian self-governance. But Israel rightfully won't let Palestine go as long as Iran is using the country as an extension of it's terrorist arm.

Palestine is the Warsaw Ghetto of the Middle East where millions of undesirables are awaiting deportation from the land of their birth because they're the wrong religion and ethnicity.

I was wondering the other day. Islamic invaders used to forcibly convert or tax the nonbelievers. Since Muslim palestinians already don't eat pork, are circumcised, wear skull caps, why not just convert to Judaism? Then wouldn't they get the right to return in 2 generations under israeli law since they are jewish? That loves the whole religion problem. For the christian ones, its ironic that born again john 3:16 bible thumpers support the jewish israelis instead of fellow xtian palestinians.
