More details about the pending national security law have come out:

Quote:
The Chinese government is to establish a national security agency in Hong Kong, said state media on Saturday.

The National Security Defense Commission will oversee the implementation of a controversial new law aimed at cracking down on dissent in the semi-autonomous city that has been rocked by over a year of on-off pro-democracy protests and riots.

The office will also collect intelligence relevant to national security concerns and work with Hong Kong's judiciary to "handle criminal cases that threaten national security," wrote Chinese state news agency Xinhua.

Xinhua reported that, in addition, bodies in all Hong Kong government departments, from finance to immigration,
will be directly answerable to the central government in Beijing.

The new agency will be chaired by the city's chief executive and would be empowered to address security threats.

The chief executive will also get to appoint judges to try legal cases deemed to touch upon issues of national security, Xinhua added.

It's very reasonable to be angry at the CCP and express it, but it's not the same as vilifying the people themselves for dint of having been born there. It doesn't just get in the way of just trying to win mainlanders over including those who dissent from the CCP mainline, but it also alienates overseas Chinese and people who are not Chinese at all that could be sympathetic to Taiwan and HK, but aren't particularly enthused by bigotry.
The odds of an independent Taiwan or independent Hong Kong have never been in the hands of the billion mainland Chinese. They don't get to decide anything. The only thing CCP cares about is staying in power. The people are just pawns to bargain with other countries and pigs to slaughter when they become a nuisance. You are the one in your little laughable naive bubble where tea parties do wonders. I am not interested in the slightest to win over a couple of Chinese brains that would never make even the slightest dent on their **** of a country's policy.

And overseas Chinese do jack ****. They are often the staunchest CCP supporters (yet they never seem to be interested in going back to China). It's the same for overseas Russians or Turks. They are often the most dangerous supporters for their respective dictators.

There's well over a billion mainland Chinese that you're making that assessment of from many different walks of life and if you've never really gotten to know any of them since you have your own bigotry that probably does a good job of preventing you from knowing any possible allies, then that's pretty expected though it doesn't make what you see accurate. It's also frankly stupid for many reasons already mentioned, but you're also sort of a devout miserabilist so at least that's in character.
I don't give a flying **** what walks of life they are from. The reality is extremely few of them have bothered to question the decades-old propaganda fed by their government. Their lack of critical thinking certainly isn't my problem to fix.

Yes, I am generalising, and I. don't. ****ing. care. Their stupid feelings are the least of my concern.

don't know, he's probably too old school to say anything in the international stage about a small internal affair about this. Actions speak louder than words. Go read up on how he governed taiwan to get tips on what he would have done about this if he had the chance.

International businessmen and most HK Chinese of different occupations aren't afraid because most did not and will not cause security problems in China including HK.

If someone is a successful business person, he or she should be able to make a wise decision staying in or leaving HK instead of listening to governments or other people who may not fully understand.
