Right now, the situation in Japan isn't too good because the policies are not very strict. But still better than developed countries in the Americas and Europe.
Yeah. Japan USED to be a model for management of covid but the last few weeks is facing a serious outbreak, although still low by western standards. They are particularly sensitive as they have the Olympics later this year (lets hope with the vaccinations, by then this China virus will be a distant memory worldwide).

The only country that can be called a model for covid management is Taiwan. Japan was never a model for management. It was better than Europe and North America, but it has always been amongst the worst in Asia, and they are now sleepwalking into the same mayhem Europe and North America are experiencing.

And it is not remotely possible that the virus would be gone by summer. At most it would be mitigated, but by winter it would come back again. The vaccine is being rolled out at turtle speed pretty much everywhere.

Oh and it's almost Chinese New Year, and Hebei surrounds Beijing and Tianjin. All I smell is a disaster in the making.
Now it is almost Chinese New Year and new infections has gone down to almost 0. Not exactly Wuhan 2.0 like you predicted.

Can you admit that you were wrong?

I never really cared much.

And we'll see after CNY.

Unfortunately patients increased in Tokyo and kansai region in a new wave as the Olympic is near.
Japan continues to have the most serious situation among east Asian countries.
When covid was not nearly cleared in the early stage in the first half of 2020, the problem still persists in most countries.
