The number of coronavirus cases in the city where the outbreak was first detected may have been 10 times higher than official figures suggest, according to a study by Chinese health authorities in Wuhan.
About 4.4 percent of the city's 11 million residents had developed antibodies against the pathogen causing Covid-19 by April, the report by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control (CDC) said.
That correlates to around 480,000 infections in Wuhan by April, nearly 10-times the official tally to date of 50,000 cases in the central China city.
China has faced a barrage of criticism at home and abroad over its initial handling of the virus, including attempts to silence whistle-blowers and not reporting any cases for days in early January amid high-level political consultations.
If they admit it's 10 times higher it's most likely 100, lol.
The difference is that the two tests catch a much different snapshot. The antibodies essentially find anybody who had the disease within the last six months, and the PCR tests find people who were infected in the last couple of weeks.
As a virus hotspot, I wouldn't be surprised. 12 percent of New York City has tested positive, and about 5 percent nationwide. Wuhan managed to get a much lower 4 percent because of the severity of its lockdown.
If they admit it's 10 times higher it's most likely 100, lol.
LMAO
At that time only those with symptoms or their contacts were tested. Everyone knows it and the same method was used in other countries too. In fact this news was published by state-run media of China government. 中国疾控中心:新冠肺炎血清流调显 我国人群总体处于新冠病毒低感染水 -新华网
Now the antibody test (as well as the Nucleic Acid PCR Test) is available to the public and people adopt this new criterion. It detects many people who have never had any symptoms.
