The world’s longest suspension bridge, which connects Europe and Asia across the Dardanelles Strait, has officially opened for use and it is quite the marvel. On Friday, President Erdogan of Turkey, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum of South Korea and various other officials inaugurated the massive bridge that connects the two sides of Turkey – one which lies in Europe and the other in Asia – and will save the 1.5-hour ferry ride that it would usually take to cross.

Standing at 2,023 meters (6,637 feet) between the two towers, the 1915 Canakkale Bridge is now the longest suspension bridge in the world.

I'm surprised a bridge there would be such a high priority. Most all of Turkey can be reached just as well vja Bosporos. Actually, all it does is bypass Istanbul on the route Izmir to Europe.

I drove Istanbul to Canakkale a month or so after the Bosporus bridge opened, then took the Darcanelles ferry back. Very pretty country there.

Obviously it saves the 1.5-hour ferry ride that it would usually take to cross.
Probably important and high traffic.

It never crossed my mind that some people are afraid of bridges.

The lesson was learn a long time ago. Bridges are now much safer.

Agreed. I am not a gephyrophobic, an agoraphobic, or an acrophobic and even though crossing a high bridge can sometimes can literally be breathtaking, I'd prefer it over taking a ferryboat. Ferries have had their share of problems over the years too.

Yes. Bridges generally are safe (well, maybe except in the US where over 220,000 bridges need repair, 46,154 bridges are considered structurally deficient, meaning they are in “poor” condition, nearly 11,200 are in “serious” or worse condition, including 1,668 that are in “critical” condition, 440 that are in “imminent” failure )
but some just look a bit scary to cross:

The scariest seems to be in Asia, however, frequently used by the locals and tourists.

I had the pleasure to drive on the world tallest bridge - Millau Viaduct and the longest in EU - Vasco da Gama bridge.
Both quite an experience.
The Bastei bridge in Germany and a bridge in Ronda, Spain are most picturesque, in my opinion.

Before this new Engineering record of 1915 Çanakkale Bridge: https://www.popsci.com/technology/19...e%20in%20Japan, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge of Japan took the earlier status.

Is the bridge weather proof? Istanbul region is EXTREMELY Cloudy overcast Drizzly with marine Fog among Latitude 41 during Mid Winter months. Couldn't believe I didn't really see the Sun there three weeks 20 days Non stop Late November to Late December 2021 in particular. Felt like a Cloud dream. No complaints. Although, the summer is actually not that Warm or Sunny. Rarely Hot. Just borderline Mediterranean. Almost oceanic. Istanbul's own almost eternally dreary weather is welcoming the right technical Bridge logistics infrastructure.

I bet the Japan bridge is Hurricane secure. And Istanbul actually gets equal amount of Average Snow as NYC in some parts of the Metro. Very surprising Climate for lots of reasons.

Yes, these bright optimistic emerging entrepreneurial business moves are frequently occurring throughout Northwestern areas of Turkey. Just like this bridge.

Istanbul Marmaray Subway train line opened very late in May 2019
(Construction 2013 to 2019)
Almost entirely above ground beginning to final
Could be the most largest representative network option in Istanbul, other than Metrobus
T1 Tram line is actually almost quite small in relation to Marmaray:

In a year such as 2005, a vast majority or significant amount of the Istanbul transportation networks didn't even exist.

Fortunately, Endem TV Tower is built earlier than 2017-2019/2020's in 1998-2008
Although, looks very Space Age very recent:
