I wonder how much racism or xenophobia plays a part in some East Asian/Pacific countries having such a small population of immigrants, especially those from outside East Asia ancestry? It seems some East Asian countries have strong restrictions on those who can immigrate to their country to be legal residents and citizens.

The modern part of An universal history, Volume 8: search Macao.

Yeah, they have Eurasians and also more recent Portuguese immigrants. But their definition of Eurasian is very broad- basically anyone who has adopted Portuguese/Catholic culture. So it can included ancestors of pure Chinese who converted to Catholicism and changed their names to Portuguese names. So it's more of a cultural label. That would be like if most Filipinos called themselves Eurasians/mestizos simply because they're Catholic and have Spanish last names. But most Filipinos don't call themselves Eurasians/mestizos. That's a small group of people mostly part of the upper-class

It’s still a more likely destination than virtually any other Asian country due its economy and cultural influence.

But Singapore has an Eurasian Association that is active and has been around for years. Principally British, Dutch and Portuguese heritage.

If memory serves me correct, in Goa, a major nerve center for the porty geez east indian misadventures, Alburqurque had favored a policy of creating a light complexion eurasian identity group to aid the companymen in dealings (i.e. enslavement or extermination) with the Asmari Aborginals.

Eurasian in Singapore. None of these people actually look Eurasian. So it seems like more of a cultural label than genetic. Maybe their ancestors converted to Catholicism/Christianity and adopted Portuguese/British culture and they called themselves Kristangs. Or maybe they have very distant Portuguese/British ancestors.

Vs Eurasian in the Philippines. Nobody uses the term Eurasian though, they call themselves mestizos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GxyeAEdzlo

Most of these people would be culturally the same or similar to other upper-class Filipinos. Their culture is very Americanized, but the same could be said for all upper-class Filipinos. So there isn't a huge cultural difference that separates them from other Filipinos. It's mostly just a physical difference

President Marcos and his wife would be examples of Filipinos with some Spanish/Basque ancestry. He's at least 1/16th Spanish while she's at least 25%. But since they don't look mixed, they don't refer to themselves as mestizos or Spanish-Filipinos and Filipinos don't see them as such. They're just Filipino.

I feel like in other Asian countries, people who look like them would call themselves Eurasians simply because they're Christians, have European surnames, have some European culture in their households, etc. But it doesn't work that way in the Philippines. You have to actually look mixed with European.

They had a very big population back in colonial times, but almost their entire population was forced to leave or killed. Many lived in the Netherlands and some in the US too.

But very few remain in Indonesia today and they're elderly. These were people who were left behind.

According to the video, there are 80 remaining Dutch-Indos in Jakarta and Bandung. None of the people in the video seem like they want to be in Indonesia because they're not citizens and have a hard life.

There's a study by Matthew C. Go which posits that Hispanic (Latin American Filipinos) and Indigenous American (Native American Filipinos) outnumber European Filipinos....

Quote:

Filipinos represent a significant contemporary demographic group globally, yet they are underrepresented in the forensic anthropological literature. Given the complex population history of the Philippines, it is important to ensure that traditional methods for assessing the biological profile are appropriate when applied to these peoples. Here we analyze the classification trends of a modern Filipino sample (n = 110) when using the Fordisc 3.1 (FD3) software. We hypothesize that Filipinos represent an admixed population drawn largely from Asian and marginally from European parental gene pools, such that FD3 will classify these individuals morphometrically into reference samples that reflect a range of European admixture, in quantities from small to large. Our results show the greatest classification into Asian reference groups (72.7%), followed by Hispanic (12.7%), Indigenous American (7.3%), African (4.5%), and European (2.7%) groups included in FD3.

Also I believe the strongman Fujimori of settler south of ladino amerigo-land was supposed to have been of nipponi origin.

Despite the propaganda of being a "racial paradise" & homeland of the "cosmic race", settler south amerigo-land was & is a major nerve center of trans-national neo-nazi cartel activity.
