Yeah, there are tons of men in china who wants a wife but cant come close to affording it, and in many countries womens standards are too high, and some women will age out of childbearing age, plus men die of smoking, drinking, doing risky activities, jobs that they die. And certain amount of people are homosexual so they don't have kids.

Its probably a good trend for world population but some poor countries people have a ton of kids hoping one of them turns rich, so that might balance out the population but who knows.

All the articles around this kind of stuff come off as cynical and stereotypical if you ask me. The idea that women don’t want to “settle” for a man without a degree, that sort of thing. Fact is if you’re going to work in a field besides STEM, there’s plenty of successful career paths that reward work ethic outside of academics and you’re not necessarily going to be making any less money. Lots of people with Social Work, teaching degrees, etc other fields that are predominantly women don’t pay as well as trades like plumbing, electrical or landscaping. Traditional gender roles are not as relevant when it comes to marriage and dating in today’s world. Plenty of nurses/doctors/lawyers who are women fall in love with and marry men who work in construction, auto, sales type of jobs. The male-female ratio is significant in China but I really hate all this “biology analysis” going are where people are making unfounded claims that every man (and by extension woman too) is somehow going to end up alone

There are rare situations where a woman who is a doctor marry a construction worker, but you dont know the true story in each case. Maybe the woman is short and unattractive, divorced, and the man is super tall and younger that her.

This hypergammy trend is only going to get worse as online dating continues and women can pick the top 20% of men, and all the average men gets nothing. Women want a man that will work hard and make tons of money, forever, plus other laundry list of requirements.

Many men will be alone for their rest of their lives in china, and a certain percentage of women will also, when they demanded too much and hit their forties, and cant have kids anymore. Very few men will pay a bride price plus have a house, car to a woman who cant give him a next generation. Thats exactly why there will be a population crisis in the next 40 years in china unless they make people have more kids now.

But then again this is not about just any place but a place that for many political and cultural reasons has a very gender imbalanced generation. So general rules don't apply.

General rules apply but it applies at least 5 times more heavier for the mans side. You have to be tall enough, and must have money. Everything is weighted heavily on having a house and the guys financial resources before the woman will marry into his world.

Most men want a girlfriend or wive but some young women in China have less romantic or independent personality and they no longer date or marry unlike their mothers.

Many young adults in asia are pressured by their traditional parents to find a potential spouse unlike western parents who dont care about this.

And more urban men are marring rural women or more rural women are marrying urban men than before.

Yeah, women only marry up or across, not down. A rural man can marry a urban woman, but he must be very rich or tall to even out.

This also creates a lot of issues, many men who marry women in china, the mans side is much wealthier than her side, and sometimes the womens side, such as parents, relatives, need 50k, 100k, etc for medical bills, and the mans side has that cash, but what can they do? Say no? If so a divorce happens, if not, the mans side will feel like they work so hard and is treated like a atm. Thats why theres so many divorces, this is small factor but when a couple gets together but they're both from different economic backgrounds, it causes issues. A dirt poor rural woman can easily get married if shes young, a above average rural guy has no shot of a wife.

It's not just about money. Status plays a big role. People performing manual labor just aren't looked upon as favorably in today's societies regardless of income. Unless that plumber or landscaping contractor owns his company, many women will see him as less than even if they are out earning them. I certainly don't agree with this, but in the age of women empowerment, hypergamy is raging in a uncontrolled manner.

Women who have degrees dont want their co workers or friends, family to talk about their husband without a degree, people talk about being, uneducated, low class, knows nothing, etc. But most countries there are more women with degrees than men, so there will be a certain amount of women who demanded too high and got to 40, and now they cant have kids anymore. Many women dont factor in their looks, they just factor in their degree, earnings, and want something equal or above.

A man can have a degree and a woman dont, as long as the man is attracted to the woman physically, its totally fine.

In most parts of the world men has to marry down in general once everything is calculated.
Thats the reason average, poor or senior urban and busy hk men never dated before can marry rural women.
