Japan's Prime Minister has been evacuated unharmed from a public event after what appeared to be a smoke bomb was thrown at him.
Witnesses described seeing him running at speed away from the sound of a loud explosion, as security forces stepped in to restrain the assailant.
It comes just over 9 months since Japan's former prime minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated at an election rally.

Just less people going around overall during the pandemic = less crimes. Most of the crime are still petty property crime (i.e. theft) more than anything.

At the end, low crime =/= no crime.
It's just following the opposite trend of the US, at least in the major cities.
I remember seeing a report that an increasing number of elderly Japanese are committing crimes. Many elderly Japanese are struggling to make ends meet, so they see prison as a viable alternative to living on their own. Reportedly, they would commit petty crimes, like stealing some food out of a convenience store.
Have you heard of daily shooting in Japanese malls, schools, churches?
No, of course nothing like in the US and not even remotely close. What I hear of mainly in Japan are sexually perverted crimes such as taking upskirt photos or groping hence why they have female only train cars.
