This could have gone into a number of forums--Relationships, Parenting, or here, in Atheism and Agnosticism--but I figure it will cause the least amount of self-righteous outrage and be the most well-received here.
I don't put much stock in such "studies", they seem to be a dime a dozen. Association is not cause, and anyway it all depends on how the questions are framed and worded.
My overall opinion is that drinking is expensive, and if you are an addict, it's deadly; if you're not an addict, it's overrated.
As for sex, despite that, unlike god, it's real, it's very nearly as disappointing as god, overall. And if your experience is different, thanks, but I'd prefer not to hear about it ;-)
The benefit of unbelief is that you are free to figure out what works for you, so long as it doesn't harm anyone else -- be it sex, the occasional drink, or something else.
While I would also rank sex and artificial euphoria ahead of kids and religion, before we decide that this poll means very much we must consider..

Grimm used mobile-phone text-messaging to collect data on what people did during the day and how they felt about it, a technique called 'experience sampling'.
Please, lighten up. Did you not see the I put in both the subject header and my post?
Good grief. Go have a martini and a shag, will ya? It's Sunday, and obviously you're not in church!
Lilac to be fair, I don't think the comments here are trying to be contraversial. They are just commenting on the post and giving their thoughts, same as always. If everyone just came along and agreed with the poll or said nothing it would make for quite a dull thread.

My first response would be what if you changed the combinations: What makes you happier?
Sex and kids v alcohol and religion
Sex and religion v alcohol and kids.
I hope that's an ok response?
Personally I'd opt for sex and kids since my kids reward me with a great amount happiness and joy. Alcohol gives me a headache. Religion - well that goes without saying. The sex with DH ain't bad either. Happy Atheists Day everyone!
Edit. Oops just realised what might be implied by what I wrote there. Obviously keeping the kids and the sex quite separate LOL.

I don't think people are trying to be controversial. I think they are just missing the point of the thread, which is to have a laugh. Should every thread on here become some giant scientific or philosophical discussion? I think not. When I saw it, my head when right to the Jimmy Buffet song.
But hey, if folks want to analyze it and debate the scientific merits, go right ahead. Oy.

I love a good, hot shower or a bubble bath.
However, I do see how texting is not pleasurable. I hate it. I'd rather sit through a church service.
