Ozzy, when you use phrases like "ancient wisdom" or "everything that people hold sacred" I can only think of the negative illustrations of that. Insisting that people conform to the dictates of "ancient wisdom" is just another means of controlling them. Control by the powerful benefits the powerful, and is not designed to benefit anyone else, only to fool them. What people hold sacred is what they're told is sacred by authority figures. People who think for themselves are ostracized. Or worse.

Note the distinction between vegetarians and vegans? Vegetarians eat eggs and dairy. Vegans don't do any animal products. Probably vegans feel fanatical to some people, mainly because of vegans' intense feelings of empathy towards animals. Children feel this but it gets socialized out of most of them over time. Some people never lose that feeling or return to it as adults.

Very well stated.

You are not supposed to be publicly expressing your 'faith'.

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Matthew 6:5-8

If you actually did the above, there wouldn't be any need for atheists to say anything.

So you accept the 'ancient wisdom' and 'deep truths' of Hinduism or Zoroastrianism? After all, they have endured as long as Judaism and much longer than Christianity

Why? Because we recognise the damage that religion has done and is STILL doing and we would like it to stop. We also recognise how an outdated adherence to wilful ignorance and superstition is very damaging to society.

Sorry, but you haven't made that case. It's absurd for you to say that. Religion is a surface reflection of what is going on in the world. Religion doesn't cause people to do things. And so that doesn't justify your attitudes. George Carlin was a talented comedian who lost all of his credibility. Now I question all of his opinions.

You are asking why people hate atheists. Maybe it's because atheists always sound like stupid people who are trying to get attention. You haven't given any reason why people shouldn't hate them. Maybe atheists are just some kind of sadists who enjoy that hatred?

And by 'publicly express their faith' you mean break the laws of the US.

I know, mixed fabrics.

Worship a nasty god and be nice to people. You need a book for the second? A book that condones a large amount of immorality? Something you keep ignoring.

Why should we acknowledge your assertions? You are simply reading what you want into the text while not knowing the cultural reason for why it is in the text in the first place.

Ozzy speak -
1) Let us just attack atheists again.
2) It is the atheists fault the book is worth scoffing at*.
3) Why do atheists simply not be quiet?

* But thank you for the new word. 'Scoff', I like it.

Yes, why should we atheists be upset at religious bigotry and terrorism?

Or maybe we think 9/11 was a BAD thing.

So rather than acknowledge ancient wisdom, you just ridicule OTHER things from the same library where that wisdom came from.
