From the "Freedom From Religion" organization, based on the WIN/Gallup International End Of Year Survey for 2017:
Poverty rate for 10 most religious countries: 29.2%
For the 10 least religious countries: 13.7%
Homicide rate for 10 most religious countries: 5.1/100,000
For the 10 least religious countries: 1.0/100,000
Freedom index for 10 most religious countries: 56.5
For the 10 least religious countries: 87.6
(Based on interviews in 68 countries).
Accurate, I would suspect: the more religious, the more teenage pregnancies. And an enormous miscellany of other charming attributes like domestic violence, drug addiction, truency, and so on. Has nothing, really, to do with anything like the pseudo-academic musings that pass for religious discussion, and everything to do with plain ole' STUPIDITY.

studies show higher intelligence is more linked to addiction.
"Published studies found that children with high results in IQ tests were subsequently more likely to abuse drugs"
Now...compare the average IQ for most and least religious!
But seriously, I'll have to read the original study but those are huge differences, and exactly in the expected direction.
people with higher intelligence "suffer from a greater preponderance of emotional and mental health concerns." higher intelligence "is significantly correlated with unstable personality in substance abusers.”

higher IQs are associated with mental and physical disorders.
Scientific American reports Neuroscience 2017 survey of high IQ group found they were more likely to suffer from a range of serious disorders. The study covered "mood disorders (depression, dysthymia and bipolar), anxiety disorders (generalized, social and obsessive-compulsive), attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism. It also covered environmental allergies, asthma and autoimmune disorders. The results were statistically significant ."
research consistently shows "It is hardly a new notion that unusually high rates of adult psychopathology are displayed among some of the most eminent geniuses "

So apparently, we'd all be less neurotic if we were all dumber.
Somehow, I don't think more stupidity is the answer to either the world's problems or anyone's personal problems.
Feel free to make the argument though.
"greater intelligence does not equate to wiser decisions; in fact, in some cases it might make your choices a little more foolish. Keith Stanovich at the University of Toronto has spent the last decade building tests for rationality, and he has found that fair, unbiased decision-making is largely independent of IQ. "
"a surprisingly high number of Mensa members [a high IQ group] believe in the paranormal"
and "someone with an IQ of 140 is about twice as likely to max out their credit card."
And from the Yale School of Management article 'Why a high IQ doesn't mean you're smart'
"researchers agree that, overall, the correlation between intelligence and successful decision-making is weak."

correlation does not imply causation. statistics are not always meaningful and can lie.
