Well, it finally happened, there was a knock at the door and I was just wearing a pair of cutoffs so I didn't want to open the door and expose my mostly naked body so I asked who it was. It was a couple of women passing out religious magazines. I really can't be rude to people, it's just not me, so I told them I wasn't dressed at the moment and they left me a copy of Awake magazine which was entitled "Are We Living In The Last Days?" It was an April 2008 copy so I guess they're a little late. This is actually the first time since I was a child living with my parents that I've been visited by religious people going door to door so it's been close to fifty years since this has happened. Now I know I'm living in the Bible Belt. There was a one page story about the ability of a gecko's feet to scale smooth surfaces without slipping which is due to the microscopic hairs on a gecko's foot. Then it asked the question "was it designed or did it come about by chance?" If those ladys come back again I'll have to give them a brief sermon about evolution.

I had them 3 days ago, it was 1 of the 2 women that came every week and a new black woman. This time they were talking about Noah and they asked me and my mother: "do-d-do-do you feel this is the literal interpretation?" I said "nope" followed by an ahh of relief, my mom's response was rather funny because her thick accent, lack of knowledge regarding the use of grammar and Spanish related idiosyncrasies made it impossible even for me to figure out her answer.

I really love it when they send new people because they always see shacko sitting in my shoulder, then they go "aww what a cute bird", they then may try to touch him which ends up in him hissing and trying to bite them. He does that with everybody he doesn't know but it just looks like the person is evil or something. Its like you lose all credibility in your religion when a bird that spends most of his time being cute and singing the great escape theme tune is trying to gnaw your finger off

The Awake is a Jehovah's Witnesses publication. I actually don't think they are too common in the "bible belt" which is more baptist and other fundamental sects. I get a copy of Awake every few months here, the last one was oddly about menopause.

Welcome to my neck of the woods, Montana!

Thankfully, the neighborhood I live in has "No Soliciting" signs and we have a security gate (that doesn't work worth a darn); but it certainly seems to do the trick. Pungee pits are pretty effective as well.

I suppose proselytizing is common for the religious. However, I would love to see atheists go door-to-door distributing literature. Alas, it's highly unlikely, as they probably have more respect for others.

Perhaps I should do a documentary on my exploits of going door to door as an Atheist in Mississippi handing out fliers of why God does not exist?

It'd probably be a documentary about my own death....

Yea, but Fox News would put a spin on it and state that those good, upstanding, Christian Mississippians were simply driving the "demon" out of their land. And Peggy Ann Sue, Billy Bob Joe, and their son, Colt, would be interviewed on how they were defending their turf from the heathens.

I never got why people have such a problem with Christians going door to door. The only thing that bothers me is that they tend to come earlier and I sleep late.

From their point of view they are trying to safe you....so they mean well. Who cares? Just don't answer the door. Atheist complain about so many petty things that I wonder how secure they are in what they think. In many cases its like an teenager rebelling against his parents.

No, that would be Christians.

I'm talking about Atheists at the moment not Christians.
