I vote blue and I have never smoked pot or took any illegal drug in my life.

On a scale of morality, I think there are much worse things than smoking weed. These past 4 years I have seen several republican leaders resign after being caught in secret gay love affairs or get caught with underage boys/girls. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch.
Just commenting on the OP. The OP brought in the mention of morals and illegal drugs.....

Again with the feigned ignorance of your own intentions, Alpha?

You said:

Quote:
Please do form your own government.
By "your own" you referred to the "blue-staters". They are who you are inviting to start their own gov't (per the letter that was being dicsussed). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I suppose that you identify yourself as a "red-stater" and would be happy to be separated from the blue people.

Then you added:

Quote:
The United States of France-wannabes
OK - now maybe I'm making too many assumptions. Maybe you really like the blue people and truly hope for them to have their own government. And maybe you are telling us that France has a great gov't that you support, and therefore would like to see your blue friends have the same type of gov't. Maybe they "wanna-be" like France and you think that is just great!

But I doubt it. I think you were picking up on that tired old France-bashing (you do remember Freedom Fries and all that, right?) and re-using it to express your distaste of both "blue-staters" and France. Lumping both into the catagory of sorta-anti-American or something to that effect.

That's how I picked up the France bashing. I know that wasn't the prime goal of your post - but it's in there.

You are making too many assumptions, but I will clarify my statement to be clearer.

The OP says:

We've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States with us.
Then proceeds to tell us how much better blue states are than red states. (Including the bit of irony I loved about red claiming to have higher morals but blue is taking the good pot. Surely the irony wasn't lost on you, b. frank)

So after that gem, I did say:

Quote:
Please do form your own government.
...and then call it the United States of France wanna-bes. But not because I dislike France but because the blue states voting for Obama apparently are pretty big fans of socialism....a la France.

So it had less to do with France and more to do with (blue)Americans apparently not liking the free market democracy America is built on.

So, welcome to France via USA.

We make bad decisions, spend more money than we make for years and years(I'm speaking individually and collectively), and then we look to the government to bail us out and pick up the tab.

That's socialism, b. frank, and that's all I meant regarding France.

Since you asked, you are wrong.

I have NO desire to separate from the blue states. My comments were joking and light just like I hope the OP was.

Divisiveness is more a left than right thing.

Oh, I think divisiveness is equally shared.

Maybe.

Again, I just remember the T-shirts with GWB's picture on them that said 'Not My President' and I remember something about Vermont testing the waters of succession from the Union.

But you are probably right, if I recall Todd Palin had some rumor floating about him regarding the same thing and Alaska.

Anyway, my point is that I DO NOT want separation from my fellow Americans, regardless if we agree on every detail or not.

Your explanation of how you were not bashing France includes an argument for why their gov't is crap. I don't know much about that so I won't argue but again, the sentiment (anti-France) is in there and you are still pretending that it is not.

Your last comment above is something only someone on the right would say or think. Oh, screw it - I'm moving to France...

LOL. Don't go, b.frank!

I don't see an argument for why France's gov't is crap because I don't believe it is crap.

It's just very very different from what I understand the principles of America to be founded on.

I think you're really reading something into my comments that just flat out isn't there.
