How does you being an Atheist affect your environment at work? if at all.

Any stories about past situations at the work place where religion, or lack thereof, became an issue?

for me, it's really about work and not my Atheism; i don't socialize much with coworkers...

None, other that some surprise by a couple folks. But I work in an international and diverse workplace with several religions represented.

I don't talk about atheism with coworkers, I try to avoid talking to them about anything outside of work. I generally get by just smiling and nodding at work and then go about my business. If someone asks me about my religion I just say I'm a Pantheist and they back off. For whatever reason Pantheism is seen in a much better light than atheism.

I work at a university in a natural sciences department. No one cares what each other's religion is or is not. With that said, religion rarely comes up except when some student pitches a fit about evolution.

My husband's previous supervisor considered himself a preacher and was aware of my husband's atheism. He made life hell on earth for my husband while he was working there and eventually the supervisor fired him stating "You're a good worker, and you know what you're doing. But I have no place out here for somebody who thinks like you do."

Should have gone to EEOC.
There are laws against religious discrimination.

I did get them to remove all of the blatantly religious crap from the doors and public areas.

All my co-workers are "Christians."
Just yesterday one of them wouldn't shut up about this preacher who has charges pressing because he tried to have sex with a 15 year old he met on the internet. I just wanted her to shut up about it.

A co-worker I get along well with, I think she is somewhat aware I'm not the most religious person on the planet (putting it mildly) but yeah. We get along well and she always says, "I don't know if you believe or not...." and I never expound on if I do or not. No need to make waves.

We did file a complaint, but nothing much has come of it. We spoke to a couple of lawyers, as well, but none were willing to take the case for all the obvious reasons.

Did you try to get in touch with the ACLU?

No. They don't take little people cases do they? I mean, they tend to focus on big deals like state issues, etc.
