It seems the Catholic Church will have to follow the same rules as the rest of us pawns. Germany convicts a Bishop of lying about the Holocaust. I hope next they call them on their involvement in the Holocaust.

Bishop Williamson convicted of Holocaust denial:

"BERLIN – A German court has convicted ultraconservative British Bishop Richard Williamson of incitement for denying the Holocaust in a television interview.
A court in the Bavarian city of Regensburg on Friday found Williamson guilty of incitement for saying in an interview with Swedish television that he did not believe Jews were killed in gas chambers during World War II.
The court ordered Williamson to pay a fine of euro10,000 ($13,544).
The Roman Catholic bishop was barred by his order from attending Friday's proceedings."

Anyone else disturbed by being fined for having an (albeit a ridiculously STUPID) opinion? If we had that kind of law here in the states, we would never have to raise taxes. Heck we could probably do away with taxes all together!

(Un)Fortunately, being stupid is not a crime. This is something about our allied nations that I do not support--restriction on your freedom of thought. Denying the holocaust in Germany is culturally similar to denying slavery in the States--and we don't legally slaughter people for doing so. If I remember correctly, part of the Texas Schoolbook Massacre actually down-plays the role of slavery in American History.

I certainly would not make it a crime to deny the Holocaust any more than I'd make it a crime to deny the Opium wars or the sacking of Tenochtitlan.

I would approve of a Very public discrediting of such nonsense by presentation of overwhelming evidence and, of course, I would want to see that it was legally not permissible to teach such disinformation in schools as an 'alternative theory' to 'orthodox' history.
