Hi everyone, I just moved to Atlanta and am trying hard to get involved somehow in the music industry down here. I just graduated college and don't expect to get a big full time paying job with music yet, but I am looking into getting an internship or some type of assistant job for now. I just want to be involved with something that will put me in a good position to make connections, learn about the music industry, and open doors for the future. Can anyone help me out and guide me in the right direction to help me find something like this. Does anyone have any connections that I could find out more about? Does anyone know of any intern/assistant openings? Thanks and hope you can help!

Make a list of the companies you think you'd like to work for. Find their websites and look for internship information. Usually you'll find internship info in the employment section. If there is a contact name and email address to send your resume to, call the company and ask for Human Resources. When you get someone, ONLY tell them you are calling to verify the name of the Internship Coordinator and also want to verify the email address for resume submission. Also ask if they prefer resumes to be in the body of the email or attached to the email. Whatever their preference is, DO IT.

If there is no internship info on the website, call the company and ask for Human Resources. Ask them if they have an internship program. If they do, find out who the Internship Coordinator is and get resume submission instructions. If they do not have an internship program, ask how you can become an intern. Some companies don't have formal internship programs, but will work out something for people expressing interest.

A looonng time ago, I got myself an internship with a talent agency by doing this. They didn't have a formal internship program, but they worked out something with me. Just remember, just because you aren't getting paid money (or getting paid a small stipend) doesn't mean you don't have to maintain the same level of professionalism as you would if you were being paid a salary.

Good luck!
