I live in NC and want my son to attend GTech in the fall.
My brother lives in Dawsonville,GA.

He will have to pay OOS tuition in the fall semester but
is there any way for him to become a resident even though his parents reside in NC?

Anyone know of how it can be done?

Generally, no. Here are the requirements:

GT Catalog : Financial : Graduate : Out-of State Tuition Waivers

I went to Tech and paid Out of State Tuition for the first few years. I did eventually pay In State Tuition but I had to drop out of school for a year, re-apply and I also had to be independent (not a dependent of my parents). Hope that helps

This is the only way to accomplish paying in-state tution. Is there any way he could live with your brother for a year and maybe do an internship and just defer his acceptance for a year? It isn't difficult to defer for a year or two as long as there is a good reason. But, all state schools are very strict with their requirements.

I'm gonna hope for some merit aid, otherwise, 2nd choice is our safety school...
NC State for engineering. The bummer is that he has the GPA 3.7 and SAT/ACT score to make the cut at Gtech.
Thanks for the information

Try contacting the admission and financial aid offices and discuss your dilemma with them. I'm presuming you completed the FAFSA and went through the channels. Their hands may be tied, particularly as Tech is a state school, but they might be able to help. Keep the lines of communication open and be sure to tell them that you may have to make a decision to go elsewhere strictly because of financial considerations. Work-study may be an option for your son.

Geez.. You (and your son) live out of state.
Pay Out of state, or two years ago move to Georgia, and pay taxes here.
How would you feel of all the Georgia students show up in NC and pay in state there? Do you want your NC taxes to pay to let anyone show up and pay in state rates?????

A friend has a daughter that goes to a Georgia college...but she studies overseas..he lives in NC and pays in state tuition for the semesters she's out of the country, so it's actually cheaper for her to study overseas than in the Ga. classroom.

^ no its not

I would just suck it up and pay out of state tuition. The benefits after you graduate will be worth it

Um...yes it is...at least in their situation. The girl has been to Australia, China, and next London...I think he Father knows what he has been paying for, before overseas study, and after.
