How many of you are thinking of leaving Atlanta? It's certainly not what it once was- a cheap place with lots of jobs and a high quality of life. Sure, It's better than the Bronx or East LA, but that type of standard is very low.

Today swaths of Atlanta buildings sit idle, freeways are jammed, and crime is virtually everywhere in the Metro. Our once growing and healthy town seems very, very sick.

I love it here too! Midtown gets better every day! Stuff keeps opening up and there is always something to do.

I'm with you guys, I've lived here 4 years and I too love it, so beautiful.
Where can you go where there is no crime? Dig in and help make it a better place.

I'm staying also. Job prospects long term are very good here I believe, many companies relocating here and adding jobs.

Love it here and not going anywhere either.

Not really getting what people are talking about how this place is going to the pits. Sure, the recession right now is bad, but it's not as if this place has never experienced a recession. Then again, I grew up in a working class household so struggling is nothing new to me.

I'm thinking of leaving, long term, but not at all because of any perception that Atlanta is "not what it once was" as the OP put it. We happen to prefer the weather, geography and culture elsewhere. I agree with the previous posters that claims that Atlanta is going downhill seem overblown.

If you find a city that matches your interest better, go for it. Metro-Atlanta is a good region that will probably work for many (there are many things to enjoy). It also has the potential to disappoint many.

Economy-wise, I dont think Atlanta will outperform stronger regions of the nation (e.g. BosWash corridor) in the near future.

Make it a better place. I just got here, and can't let that energy go to waste on negativity. I'd rather deal with reality and make the best of things. Embrace what you have.

Try Florida, or better yet North Dakota, you may like one of them.

Maybe not the NY, Boston, DC areas in the near future, but I think it has and may continue to outperform places like NC, Miami, TN, AL...etc.
