Things are tough all over the country (although I hear the job market in Omaha is quite healthy). It's the economy and until that improves, jobs are tight, tax revenues low and quality of life suffers.

Atlanta may not be as "cheap" as it was, but take a look at housing prices in NY, DC, Boston and you might feel much better.

Today swaths of Atlanta buildings sit idle, freeways are jammed, and crime is virtually everywhere in the Metro. Our once growing and healthy town seems very, very sick.

I'm sticking around. I love Atlanta and it's a wonderful city.

Your present 2010 views of Atlanta could apply to many other big cities, Very few states, and cities for that matter, have been untouched by this very deep recession.

Atlanta may be deficient in job opportunities, but it's still a fairly inexpensive place to live.

Agree. For the southeast USA, Atlanta is probably the best pick.

LOVE Atlanta, hate pollen and ragweed...unfortunately, this is a fact of life here and sometimes I yearn to be able to not have to use meds to live here....but there are soooo many plusses here. Don't agree at all with OP that it is going downhill, just changing and getting bigger.

Whewww... i was worried for a second. I would like to move to Atlanta once the job market stabilizes. So, it's nice to know that you all feel Atlanta is still a great place to live and not going down hill as the OP seems to imply. I appreciate everyone's diverse perspective.

I would leave for the right job opportunity, but due to a lot of family still residing in Georgia, chances are, I am not leaving. I would take a full-time telecommute position instead.

my family and i have been living in atlanta since july so we're relatively new here. we having been enjoying living here. we're in a great active subdivision with good neighbors and i have met some pretty nice people so far. i'm of the mind you make the most of where you are at. when i lived in brooklyn, ny, my family and i loved it there too. we moved to atl for the lower cost of living (nyc will stretch your dollar until it screams and cries, "uncle!") and the warmer weather. i know what helps us is that we have some family and friends that have helped us get adjusted. we are not moving as we decided to set roots right here in georgia. besides, my rat terrier and chihuahua loves it down here too. they love chasing grasshoppers!
