Hi everyone. I'm currently looking to move my family out of the NYC area. Unfortunately, my job in advertising keeps me tied to major cities. We currently live about 20 minutes outside of manhatten and this place is eating up paychecks! We are a single income family, so looking to move to a city that is financially more manageable. Atlanta is the only market that come to mind other than Chicago. Chicago dropped off the list this year after that Polar Vortex. That said, we are looking for family friendly neighborhoods that will allow for a commute that is less thant 1 hour to midtown. Good schools are a must. We have a 3 yr old and another on the way. Our housing budget is about $500k. We don't really go out that much, we are totaly homebodies. So love to have some nice space, yard, all that jazz. The one thing I've heard about Atlanta is that the neighborhoods can get sketchy real quick. That said, security is also a concern. Looking forwrd to hearing from everyone!

The areas where the neighborhoods can get "sketchy real quick" are in the urban areas of the City of Atlanta.

Based on your requirements and budget you are not likely to be any where near these areas.

You are going to have tons of options available based on your budget. I guess I would recommend Sandy Springs or Dunwoody to start which are reasonable commutes. You can certainly afford the intown neighborhoods but if you are true homebodies - why pay the premium for the location.

East Cobb would be a perfect fit.
