Decatur is pretty nice for the most part. The main concern there would be the commute to and from the airport. I can see that being sort of a pain. Most of the desirable areas of Decatur aren't at all convenient to commuting to the south side of town. It has a fairly liberal vibe and there are some cool bars scattered around downtown. You may want to consider East Point or College Park as well. They are on the southside but have some nice areas and are fairly quiet. Both are right next door to the airport.

east point and college park?? i hear those are very dangerous unattractive neighborhoods that are pretty much african american, as mostly south atlanta is. i want to live where there is a racial diversity and a safe area......i think smyrna will be where i will begin looking.

Those areas are mostly AA and there are some kinda rough areas in a few places but there are also some really nice areas as well with all types of people. Atlanta is just patchy like that for the most part outside the north end of town which tends to be more stable neighborhood to neighborhood. Either CP or EP(maybe both) has a pretty sizeable gay community.

i also heard of a neighborhood called jefferson park (heights) which is pretty mix and safe, heard lots of gay people there. i'm not looking to rent my own place yet but rather a roommate for a while and JP seems to be only cottage style homes and a very small area.....i havent had luck finding listings for roomates there. also smyrna, although up north i was told was awesome and a breeze of a drive to hartsfield.

I'm not too familiar with JP. I'd have to do a little more research on it. Smyrna may be a little more expensive but it may also be easier to find a roommate either already there or interested in living there. I'd think it would be a little bit more popular than East Point.

As far as the commute goes, it shouldn't really be too bad depending on when you make it. Of course this is Atlanta so be prepared for anything traffic wise.

You are gay?

Well why didn't you say so?

The answer for you is Midtown.

They have Marta...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midtown_(MARTA_station)

Try it and see how long the commute is...

Vinings would be a worthy second for the airport commute. But it really comes down to whether you want to drive or take a train.

GETTING TO AND FROM AIRPORT IS MAIN CONCERN.

??
I would suggest you find something close to the MARTA train - it goes right into the airport. Several of the northern-most stops are moderately upscale. Me, I would pick the best I could within a reasonable walk or short/cheap cab ride of one of these train stations.

Good luck to you.
