I just moved to Atlanta and moved to Buckhead. Does anyone recommend any local family owned furniture stores that sells solid wood? I want some better quality, no veneers, no fiberboard, etc.

We have used Matthews for many years.

Mathews Furniture Galleries, Atlanta's Premier Furniture Store

We also liked Beverly Hall, but Mr. Hux passed away recently and I believe they are closing. They may have some good deals.

I have found some fabulous furniture at local consignment stores such as Board of Trade in Roswell, Southern Comforts in Dunwoody and Milton as well as the monthly auction at King's Auction in Roswell. The auction is really a lot of fun with entertaining auctioneers, comfortable atmosphere and lots of very unusual items as well as great buys on furniture and rugs. We had never gone to an auction before this summer.
Beverly Hall is closed, at least the Roswell location.
I also like Ballards (intown location and an outlet in Roswell) in addition to their online and catalog sites.

I bought a very nice solid mahogany Baker coffee table at Savvy Snoot! I have also been to Nadeau and liked their stuff.

Now I am looking for a sofa and chair. Does anyone know of any local furniture stores that are reasonably priced for what you get? I have been to Mathews but it was too expensive for me.
I want a locally, family owned furniture store, in an old building, downtown type setting, etc... just something you know that has been around a while with good quality.

This post may not prove to be helpful, but I recall there being a family owned furniture store right off of 78 in snellville. However, i can't remember the name for anything. It's in a shopping center. I went there once and they seemed to have a variety of stuff from new to antique. Perhaps someone else on the board knows of the store?
