My brother pulled his kids out of a private school and put them into Montgomery. It wasn't a money issue. Right now he would rate it equal or better to the 2 private schools in the same catchment area.

Also as others stated this specifc area has gotten a lot better and many younger families are moving in specifically for the school and neighbourhood. Lots of houses also have/are being remodelled. The area location can't be beat and its still a great value compared to North Buckhead/Sarah Smith.

As for the potential redisctricting it will not impact the racial make up of Montgomery. The potential losers will be the in neighbourhoods that will move out of Montgomery and back to Huntley or the proposed new school.

I would also be surprized if the re-districting happens as shown in the centralized plan. Even Dekalb Schools can't be as stupid as to re-locate a magnet school (Kitteridge) twice in 3 years! I am thinking there is too much parent opposition in Brookhaven and Dunwoody and plenty of lawyers will to do pro-bono.

Just so you know, it is nearly impossible to sue a school district about redistricting.

The next phase of the plan will be announced in August 2011. Watch carefully, as the system intends to aim for elementary schools with 900 students.

The private schools in Montgomery's area have never been better than Montgomery. They just had a different demographic.

Very good points by all of you. It just goes to show that when you start tinkering with schools you are messing with a city at the most fundamental level. I sure hope DeKalb gets it right. There are a lot of people counting on it.

I know someone who had a child at Our Lady of Assumption but decided to save money by putting him in Montgomery Elementary because the reputation of the school suddenly went up. She says her whole subdivision had a sudden shift and many families also left St. Martin's.
