There are lots of developments both inside of and directly bordering the real Vinings that are very nice. It isn't just the Smynings pretenders (which, like Vinings Estates, are actually located in southern Smyrna, *not* Mableton) which offer high-quality housing.

Second, this area of Mableton was once considered Bankhead and was ridden with crime before John Weiland stepped in and started naming his subdivisions in MABLETON, "Vinings Estates," etc.
I live in a 20-year-old Wieland subdivision (Stoneybrook) in Mableton just off Cooper Lake and Civitania, so I'm quite familiar with the area.

Vinings Estates was an area of undeveloped forest with a smattering of older homes prior to Wieland building there (not really "ridden with crime" unless you'd consider deer to be criminals), and many of the other developments in northern Mableton (or areas formerly in Mableton but now part of Smyrna) like the areas along Nickajack, along Buckner Road to the east, around Pebblebrook Estates, etc, are not really the area formerly known as Bankhead.

That area was actually just to the south (we're two miles away from V.M.Hwy even in my neighborhood, and Vinings Estates is just to the north of us).

The "Vinings" developments and other similar newer developments being referred to are actually just off the E/W Connector on Cooper Lake Road, Fontaine, Nickajack, Buckner, etc., not off Veterans Memorial Highway, and are at least a few miles north and even further west from the Bankhead Apartments and other areas that have historically been problem areas (which have, to my understanding, mainly been well off to the east by the river and also mainly to the south of Vet Mem Highway).

We don't have a crime problem that I'm aware of. Many of our neighbors have been in Stoneybrook for a number of years (some since the beginning), and the areas you're thinking of have no influence. We had more incidents where I used to live in Eden Prairie, MN, than we do in our area of Mableton, which is pretty telling (statistically, Eden Prairie is heaven on earth compared to most of the Atlanta metro).
