I want the 'foolishness' out of my head. After i returned from teaching in Savannah--which no matter what anyone 'says'--resulted in what I consider PTSD. At risk middle school students need a lot more than I have--'good intentions are the road to 'H'--that is absolutely the truth. In the 60's it was 'Dynamic DeKalb'--the absolute best--that is what They said. Over and over again--that is the idea that was taught--we have given you the best, you are the best go forth and share with others who have not had this advantage. I was an average student in the Best of the Best high schools--wowee--those test scores. Then I taught for DeKalb--and over and over again, same thing. I finally met some teachers from other parts of the country and began to think as they did---wouldn't have dared to think for myself--who am I---average and that means 'mediocre'---if you are not The Best--don't even bother that was the philosophy. So i pushed myself in all kinds of ways some good and some not so good.
Made a career change---paralegal, the market was flooded in the early 80's--and I met a different kind of people---far beyond anything I had ever known. Then I moved to Savannah and taught 5th grade in a more middle class suburb--that would have worked but --things were stuck in my head that should not have been in there--'Thick as a Brick'---Jethro Tull. I managed to clear enough out to really use my skills---of course they are very conservative in Savannah--a stranger from of all places Atlanta--not exactly welcome. 'Atlanta--thinks it is something--while the rest of the state has nothing--and that has been exactly the truth for a number of years'. I got involved in the innovative courses for the At Risk--absolutely stunned at how little had ever been done for those children. the population shifted and I was transferred to the middle school---after a busy summer designing a course in Language Arts---the kids were just 'wild'--some of it hormones, adolesence--and some of it pure evil. I lasted to the Friday after Mother's Day---knocked the 'S' out of me--that is all I know.
So I came home--and started rebuilding--Olympics--felt better---the shift of power to Bush--I got swept away --Boortz, Hannity and all that. Those ideas stuck and they are somewhat true--but as I have learned in this forum--the media will push an agenda--individuals posessed of the ability to reason know that---'Creative, artistic' types--go off the deep end when emotion rises.
I am tired of this in my head. the Drama---I have asked a few people--I don't get involved in many groups at the present time--health issues and more--people don't really want to talk about politics--know what they believe and realize that their are logical reasons for the political differences.
Oh--I am going to do something with the skills I worked so hard to acquire. I am that much of a fiscal conservative. I write--not the greatest--but some expertise in research--an investigaton--the Truth--I will have it come H or High water. How--remains to be seen. I am certified to teach ESOL--I wanted to --it was just not possible. The painful experiences went very deep--confidence--I never had a lot and a lot less after --All this.
I want to write about Atlanta. Carmen Deedy, children's author--her family left Cuba in the 60's and moved to Decatur. She is a storyteller--I met her. One of the most inspiring people I have ever met. I think I could do something like that---mercurial wit--lots of experiences in Atlanta--pithy, dry sense of humor---why not, why not. If I don't accomplish anything else in my life I know that is my true calling--I've been telling tales all my life. easypeazy--i know I should do that. The time seems right. Let go of what was never good and true and move on. that is how i motivate myself. The creative process--according to some really fine writers that I met online.
That is what this is---at times?--the moon and the stars align---Mercury flares up--if you like that theory. Those with Mercury --the messenger/communicator--respond. That works for me--if it is the Devil--that works, too. I have visited the Inferno quite a few times--singed--but not too badly---like Brer Fox--running through the Briarpatch. that is the history I know and it is interesting and complex--paradoxical--Comedy and Tragedy.
Briarcliff High School--The Best --Fine and Performing Arts--that is what I received--inclined to do something with the gift. I read the entire Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon and met the Hosers online--those are my kind of people--very free thinkers, funny, kind, creative, smart, wise and that is what I like.
I will get myself back to the DPLS--they offer all kinds of opportunities for writers. Decatur--I keep telling them ''The library--only stable institution left in the society'--they don't say much--they are book people. If only the entire world could be exactly like the staff of DPLS--I would be just fine. lol
Wanky--that is what the Hosers say. The head hoser lives in Vancouver-she is really something. Inspirational --what a tale I have told again. Change --it can be done. I don't doubt that. Get rid of too much anality--that helps. jmo.
ETA: Bluegrass--up in them thar hills --Dahlonega--the Rangers train up there--it is 'dangerous' spooky, scary--that is just fine with a particular type of Southerner---'danger'--we embrace it--No Fear--um --we have God on our side, ye ken? That would be the Scots-Irish--crazier people have never lived, I am certain of that. The Highlanders---if you want to know about them--Diana Gabaldon is the authority---when she feels so inspired she writes and she loves to explain the process. Herself---sigh--if only all could be like Herself. That is what all Hosers say--over and over again. She tells stories--Scots like to tell stories around the campfire in those mountains. Scotland Forever---Decatur, GA.
You can ask a Scot--he/she will decide if the question is worthy of an answer. Private people--aloof, indepedent, kind and good and the most stubborn, purposeful, resolved people on the face of the earth--I am convinced. I know DeKalb county very well--at times I suspect --The Devil is alive and well --'The Devil is in the Details'--a Scot loves that idea. Not always so easy to Bloom where you are planted --you have to get creative, find alternatives. Would any human do less--a Scot would say, No---come what may we live free by what we believe. Culloden --they lost everything to England and I am certain some Scots hate the Crown to this day. The Celts. Raging, screaming warriors---forgive, maybe for the purpose of survival--forget, never.
