I know Cobb will vote because i'm sure officials will put the light rail train from Kennesaw to Arts Center Marta Station on the list. Gwinnett wants to light rail from to Doraville from the Gwinnett Arena so i'm sure they will vote. The people that vote in Atlanta want the beltline so i'm sure Atlanta will come out to vote. The same with Dekalb County.

This is from 2006 but it will give you an idea of what areas really "matter" vote wise. (I dont have time to delete ALL the counties that are not in the Metro Atlanta area)

As I understand it, though, the vote is only by the counties which make up the region in question. For the metro Atlanta region, that means Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale.

Yeah, that is why I posted the list. Those counties dont really matter because Cobb, Dekalb, Gwinnett, Fulton have X40 more people. The votes in Clayton County will cancel out the votes in Fayette and Rockdale

Will the MARTA tax on Fulton and DeKalb go away if this regional bill is approved? It wouldn't seem fair to whack them twice.

That's a good question. But since the new tax is meant for more than just Marta, I'm sure Fulton and Dekalb folks will be paying 2 cents (1 cent Marta, 1 cent all other). Just my guess.

Hm, you are probably right, Ansley. I wonder how much a 1% sales tax works out to be for a family with an income of, say, $80,000 a year? This is a total guess but say 1/4 of their income is subject to sales tax.

That's an extra $200 a year. Which doesn't sound all that terrible -- maybe 3-4 tanks of gas. I'd be okay with that if the money is used wisely.

Re: the protests against MARTA because it brings crime to the suburbs; Doesn't mass transit cut down on crime? If more people can get to a job that pays decent wages wouldn't that lessen the need to commit crime? It may just be my inner liberal thinking, but is it possible?

Ya know, and I'm sure some will disagree, but that's a pretty good way of looking at it. I like the logic. Anyone heard of any studies on this?
