Love my 'hood but it's not kid-friendly. Looking for a 'hood where kids can be kids, ride bikes outside, parents meet every now and then for an impromptu BBQ. We live in Dunwoody now and aren't averse to moving elsewhere...but feel like our kids are missing out. I know I'm being vague, but where's Mayberry ITP? Anyone? Bueller?

Would love to hear from residents of neighborhoods who LOVE their 'hood. I know the theoretical stuff about every area but now I need some sells! We're cool...promise...just haven't quite found our fit in the ATL yet.
Thanks, as always!!

I know, George...been following your threads for years and you're so right...it just seems a bit too far for us. And I'll be honest, it's a bit scruffy for me. Would I be inviting criticism if I said I'm an ITP girl who likes OTP homes? Anything near Emory?

Look in the Morris Brandon school district. Not quite as neighborly as Decatur, but lots of kids. And some newrr construction mixed in.

Where in Dunwoody do you live that it's not like that already? That sounds like most of the neighborhoods in that area.

I don't know where she lives, but that's not the case where I live, either. My kid can't ride his bike because there are no sidewalks. (Though I understand the city is working on that.) Impromptu bbqs? Not so much. Maybe it's me, but I've found the folks here in Dunwoody to be a bit standoffish. Then again, maybe it's because I don't live in the "real" Dunwoody. Dunno, I like it here, but I haven't found it particularly kid friendly.

Yeah, the sidewalk thing is really bizarre...having grown up in the area it's funny that I actually am used to it! The reason I asked is I cut through Mill Glen a lot and also the Branches neighborhoods to miss traffic and it seems like every 5th yard has a gaggle of kids playing with bikes strewn about, and parents on the porch having drinks or whatever. Maybe it's a subdivision by subdivision thing, as those are both HUGE neighborhoods with a lot of interconnecting roads that are relatively traffic-free (except people like me, haha). Having said that, I could see some of the people around here being clique-ish and standoffish as well, so I guess I should be too surprised.

Interesting...will drive thru both this weekend. I'll put some chips and a blender in my car in case someone invites us over!

I tire of these "best" threads. There is no best, there are a bunch of good options and you need to find one that suits you.

I would even recommend staying in a hotel for a week or so in areas you are considering to get a true feeling for the area before you make a decision.
