Yes, we need it badly the roads are only going to get more congested as the city continues to grow. It will pull at least a small portion of drunk drivers off the road. We are less likely to have a smog cloud like LA.

I've sort of fallen out of the lop on this, but as of a couple weeks ago it seemed like they were slicing away the transit portions of this plan, piece by piece. I refuse to pay more taxes for roads if I can help it, so I'll probably vote NO.

Source?

I've seen no indication that the list has been pared down from the ~$20bn level as of yet except by the ARC as a recommendation.

Let's wait until we see the actual list until casting a firm judgement on whether there are too many roads or whatever. As of right now we have no idea.

I can't give you a source for specific transit components of the list which were cut (or were proposed to be cut), but there are definitely BIG cuts in the wish list.

Transportation wish list sliced to $12.2 billion *| ajc.com

I have not decided how i will vote, and will educate myellf more fully in time to vote, but my hunch is a lot of slicing and dicing in which roads win out. I'm not voting for roads under any circumstances. I don't care if people who chose to live far from where they work have to sit in traffic jams every day.

Not unless taxes are lowered somewhere else. Otherwise it is sort of like the frog in the boiling water. Just calm the public by only doing small gradual increases. Oh...it's only a penny!

I'm voting for it, although it doesn't seem fair that those of in DeKalb and Fulton should have to pay 1% for MARTA plus an additional 1%.

I understand the argument that it's only a penny.

But if you live in Atlanta you're paying a 4% state sales tax, a 1% SPLOST, another 1% MOST tax, and another 1% for our cheating schools. Add in MARTA and the transportation tax and you've suddenly gone from "just a penny" to 9 times just a penny.

That's all in addition to our 6% state income tax, our city and county property taxes, and our federal taxes. So the money starts melting away pretty fast.
