It has been said that a few of the smash-and-grab group robberies that have taken place in stores in Atlanta were actually part of a growing "flash mob robbery" trend around the U.S.

Below is an AJC article on the topic, and under that, a link to the National Retail Federation blog that contains links to steps that retailers should go over to better help them prepare for and possibly prevent such an event from taking over their business. Handy to read:

In the article below the mayor of Philadelphia does a great job of laying it all out:

Ask yourself: why does it matter what race they are in the first place?

Be careful out there Philly. Your local authorities have dropped bombs on people for less.

Given the flash mob - like happenings in Atlanta, I think anything from other cities that gives us ideas on snuffing out this criminal activity can certainly be said to be relevant to Atlanta.

Regretably, in the end, it's going to have to involve some 9mm rounds from LEOs and citizens, and then a lot more to deal with the inevitable riot that will follow.

You suggest we are going to have London-like situations. You could be night, but certainly hope you're wrong. But folks are a bit restless and very frustrated right now. Heaven only know how people may decide to express that frustration. All of our leaders, from the White House to our local neighborhood associations should show strong leadership right now.

This happens everywhere. If the link was about groups of kids across the country giving free food to the homeless it would not have been posted on here

Not sure we will get a lot of support from the White House... Being on vacation, attending fund raisers for 2012 and having mtgs on energy alternatives will certainly not provide the focus of support we do need about jobs and creating the incentives for companies to start hiring so we can get out of this mess.
