Maybe I'm ignorant or too hopeful but cars aren't what they used to be, I think people will be looking more at alternatives and less at building more roads, at least to enough of a degree that we'll never see anything like this in our lifetime. This has been talked about before but never pursued with any real seriousness as far as I'm aware.

I love cars but they're an awful way to get around town and more people are going to realize that as oil prices go up. I think you'll see a lot more money going into public transit.

LOL, my thought, too. If I'm still alive, my only concern will be finding a nursing home with good access to a liquor store.

Have you been to Acworth or many of the outer suburbs? Its definitely not easy access to highways.

Besides the crime and school issues that affect every city, how about expensive land in the city, tight & often corrupt regulations and zoning, and bad access to roads and highways in the city.

The northern arc would save people on the northside a lot of time in cross-town commuting. For example, someone in Woodstock could take it over to Gwinnett County and not have to drive down to I-75, all the way to I-285 East to I-85 north. Either that, or have to sit in traffic along the local roads.

Yeah I've been to Acworth over a dozen times. I went to every suburb in the metro area from Flowery Branch to Newnan when I audited paper routes for the AJC. Acworth isn't that far from I575.

Actually, the only suburb I can think of that is actually pretty inconvenient from the highways is Dallas but even if a suburban community isn't right next to the interstate, that doesn't mean that a 6 lane mega-road (i.e. hwy 92) won't get them there in a few minutes.

I can't believe GDOT's refusal to address this issue.

I actually did not know that. Thankyou!
