Will there come a time when we should remove Freedom Parkway and reconnect the neighborhood streets? The road was a mistake from the start. The linear park area along the road doesn't add much in my opinion. The park at Freedom and Moreland could stay of course as should other greenspace and a multi use path. The rest could be built out

I think the time will come, at some point, to reconnect the neighborhood.

I disagree. Freedom Parkway will especially be needed once PCM opens. They are expecting over 13k people daily from workers to visitors to visit PCM each day. All those people can't use North Ave or Ponce especially the people that are trying to get back on 75/85. Freedom Parkway will be a fast option to get to and from PCM via 75/85 imo

I hope so. Probably once it comes time for all the bridges and everything there to be overhauled they should just remove them.

Stopping these planned freeways saved a lot of great intown neighborhoods including mine. Atlanta freeway revolts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Removing Freedom parkway would be devastating to L5P for lunch-hour business. It's also a nice bikeway. Furthermore, it gives some privacy and quiet streets for neighboring streets. You want to provide walking/bicycle access, but car access to every side street isn't necessary.

In fact, having too much of a grid causes gridlock. Look at some Northeastern cities that have this issue, for instance.

Wasn't the Carter Center a major reason FOR Freedom Parkway? Unless they had a change of heart about it, I think the Parkway is here to stay.

I'm okay with the parkway but would like to see it reconfigured.

It was actually the first phase of an E-W expressway that would have connected Downtown to Stone Mountain Freeway. There was also a N-S expressway planned that would have connected 400 to I-675.
The overall impact would have been devastating to the east side neighborhoods.

How so? I can't imagine that many people are going from downtown to L5P for lunch.

Removing it would be fantastic. It's pointless.

Seriously it's pointless, I live Downtown and hardly ever use it and I frequent L5P and the area around Ponce City Market often. I imagine it's useful for the residence of the area more so than visitors, and I'm sure they would all love to see it go away. North Ave is under utilized as everyone would rather take Ponce, although there are several more lights and fewer lanes.
