Well if they're wasting THEIR time, that has nothing to do with you getting on with YOUR life, does it?

Black on Black crime is COOL, BUT suddenly White on Black crime is not??
The crime itself isn't the biggest issue (and Zimmerman is Hispanic, not sure if he's "really" White); it's the way law enforcement handled it afterward.

No, he was not in the wrong place at the wrong time and I get sick of people saying that when innocent people die at the hands of hardened criminals or self-appointed vigilantes.

Although I'm not surprised at all that you don't see it, this is definitely a case that matters.

It's not pointless. Thankfully the incident was decided to be investigated and a grand jury convened, but protesting is part and parcel of our rights as Americans to free speech, whether they are Tea Partiers, Occupiers, or whatever.

I believe a lot of America could get onboard with a lot of these causes which are protested, but the lunatic fringe who take over these causes alienate most of America from siding with them. While this might not be a case like that, past cases like the absurd protests of Troy Davis' execution de-sensitive many Americans to the cases that are possibly legitimate injustices.
I disagree. We're too polarized as a nation for "a lot of America to get onboard with a lot of these causes." You'll never see 95% of Americans supporting either Tea Partiers or Occupiers.

the emotional raging that says zimmermen is archie bunker out doing a little klan recreational shooting with no provocation is indeed hard to swallow.
The local authurities said it was fine. If zimmerman was Black The ATL wouldnt care shawty. There would be no protest because to society it would not matter. People have issues.

Note that the seventeen year old 6'3 Traymon was on top of the 5'4 Zimmerman beating him.....a little different picture than the media is trying to portray with pictures of a 12 year old Traymon and stories of him going to the store to buy "skittles"......
This kid was 6 3???? All the pictures I see make him look like a 4th grader...I thought this kid was in Middle School. 17 is a high school age. The Media, The Media, The Media.....wow man.

I guess this incident would give me a lot of insight into the "character, motivations," and moral values of your high school-aged relatives in Lake Oswego also?

Maybe this may shed some light on what's going on and why people protest.

Yes, but this is not a political event at all. This is a criminal event and no one really knows all of the details yet. It could go either way, but based on the facts, people could swing one way or the other. Of course we'll have politicians, including our President, chiming in to score any political points they can out of the event, but that is the problem. This is not a political event at all. It has nothing to do with Tea Party or Occupy. To even bring them up in the context of this discussion is absurd and shows how quickly people try to characterize what they view as 'the other side.'

This is not the first incident in this town that raises questions about racial bias in the police dept.
