Oddly, I just noticed that AJC just changed the headline and story to reflect 1500 jobs. I hope this is true!

I guess the way to apply will be through your local temporary agency.

Regarding quality, Baxter is much better than Catpiller and Kia as Baxter's products are much higher margins and of higher growth potential due to broaden application of Plasma. That being said, if we pay 85MM to induce 1500 jobs, does that mean we pay 50k per person? Even if we assume the 1500 jobs can create additional 1500 jobs in services and related areas, does that mean we pay 25k per person? Can anybody explains to me how we get our money back?

Georgia giving away the farm, like most other Southern states? We've got to be more discriminating with our use of incentives.

We're not really "paying" anything, other than a $15million grant- the rest is tax breaks. Yes, we're foregoing collection of the tax, but if they weren't here, we wouldn't be getting the taxes anyway. In the interim, they'll be providing jobs for 1,500 people who will pay state tax, and will pay sales tax on goods they purchase. Eventually the tax breaks will end, and we'll then collect taxes from Baxter as well.

Actually, if you look at the NCR deal the state lets them withhold the state payroll taxes and actually keep the money. Let's say the avg job is ~55-60k which works out to ~3k/person or more if the person also has dependents since they still get to file a return. Also, all the real estate they're using in state is either leased or bought by the state/local gov't for them. They own nothing and I'd venture they'll evaluate what states are willing to buy some transient jobs.

Assuming Baxter gets the same deal, they get a 6% discount vs. other employers in the state...corporate welfare at its best. What happens when Home Depot threatens to move its HQ out of state? There's 5,000 people at HQ alone. What about Coke? We don't have Texas/Florida's tax bases to pay top dollar for jobs (sounds terrible doesn't it).

On another note...it's a lot more than $15M in total:
Incentives for Baxter plant will be more than $200 million *| ajc.com

What's to keep Baxter from demanding renewal of tax breaks and moving elsewhere in 5-10 yrs when the tax incentives dry up? See First Data as an example of corporate extortion works.
