I was just following the path of the beltline on the west side. Looking at hollowell, that is one ugly stretch of road b/t the row and Marietta St. An alternate route for e-w line to the north Ave Marta station would be to just stay on north Ave the whole way. From the abandoned row to the west, the transit line could hook east on north Ave NW, then a quick jog on Lowery to continue on north Ave all the way to the Marta station. This section would have a strong residential element. I think it would add more character to the line. But it does give up the development potential on hollowell.

If they do use hollowell to go e-w, I wonder in they will use that abandoned bridge that goes directly across the tracks? If so they could continue the bridge over Marietta St and use tech Pkwy to hook down to north ave.

The Seventeenth street bridge was actually originally designed and built to have a light rail line running up the middle of it from the Arts Center Marta Station to Atlantic station. But like so many other things later that idea was never carried completely out due to budget constraints. Currently the middle lane is used as a bus lane. Marta buses and the Atlantic Station Shuttle bus both use it.

eventually i think that would be awesome, but at this time that neighbourhood is really dangerous and getting off the main roads is not safe there, plus north avenue is really narrow, as are all the streets through there. it seems like it would be better to have it go along bankhead hwy for the development potential, and that neighbourhood will gradually get better.

that's a really cool idea. it could be part pedestrian and part transit, or all transit. love this idea.

17th street bridge must have transit on it, part of the agreement for federal funds. That's why there is a bus lane, very wide, and a free shuttle. It will eventually get a streetcar or street running LRT.
