Downtown Alpharetta is already very impressive on the west side of Main St. Once they keep building up on the east side of the street and then eventually tie it all into Avalon, that area will be a true gem.

It's already a better downtown area than Roswell, IMO.

Atlanta suburbs like Roswell, Decatur, Dunwoody, East Cobb, and Peachtree City are really not all that suburban compared to many other metro areas because the core city, in terms of square miles, is actually, one of the smaller ones, for a big market, in the country. If you overlayed a map of say Dallas, Austin, Charlotte or Tulsa, Atlanta is much smaller. In fact, ATL ranks only as the 72nd largest city for square miles. Austin is more than twice (297 sq. miles) as large as Atlanta. So what are suburbs bordering Atlanta would be in the city limits of many other U.S. cities.

That's actually incorrect. Atlanta is about average sized, land wise. It's just mostly composed of single family home, low density residential, laid out in a suburban way, with large yards for every home. In a sprawled region, where the urban areas are mostly outside of the city.

Atlanta is the exact same size as Philadelphia, almost to the square mile. Yet Philly has 3X the population.

Baltimore and Seattle are HALF the size of Atlanta, both with more population.

Portland is the exact same size as Atlanta, with more population.

Detroit, Denver, Las Vegas- all about the same geographic size, but with more people than Atlanta.

Sacramento has only 90 square miles, but it's about the exact same population as Atlanta.

Atlanta is not geographically comparatively large or small compared to the other major cities of the country. It's in the middle somewhere, especially for its population range.

I will give you this, Atlanta is probably the least populated core/actual city out of the top 10 most populous metro areas, which I think Metro Atlanta is ranked #9. Maybe even of the top 20 metro areas.

Alpharetta is getting on the KSM bandwagon.

Quote:
Like Snellville before it, Alpharetta could be set for a food-hall concept that developers envision as a suburban cousin to Krog Street Market.

Earlier this month, Alpharetta’s Design Review Board gave a conditional thumbs up to a food hall with five restaurants where an outpost of The Varsity had closed in February.

The proposal was brought by developer George Banks, the former vice president of Krog Street Market’s creator, Paces Properties, who’s now a partner with a company called Revel LLC.

According to the AJC, Banks told the board the prototype marketplace would be a distillation of the Krog Street Market model. Four of the five slots are already leased, Banks said, though no names were disclosed.

If this was being built in Kirkwood or West End people would be doing backflips.
