Gwinnett Daily Post | "THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT: What's going on with Atlanta radio?" by That's Entertainment

92.9 Dave FM is about to go. Project 96.1 was taken off the air with absolutely no warning.

What is going on here??

I was wondering about this too. I wasn't too happy yesterday morning when I got in my car to drive to work only to hear Justin Bieber instead of Kidd Chris.

It's pretty sad. This is why I have satellite radio in my car.

Radio is a dying format everywhere.

88.5 is the only non talk station that is worth listening to in ATL.

Radio doesn't have to die. It just has to be better managed.

Of the 10 largest radio markets in the United States, Atlanta has to be the worst of them all.

For one of the same reasons one of the most powerful frequencies in town turned to talk radio on a main FM station.

People are increasingly using computers (Pandora, Spotify, etc..), mp3s/ipods, satellite radio, and now some services are starting to use streaming digital data services for things like Pandora and spotify in cars.

Radio will always be around, but the amount of revenue they bring in will go down.

This is why a niche station, talk radio, can get a prime FM frequency these days.

The music stations are desperately trying to cut costs and much of the music programming becomes automated. In fact much of what you hear is automated the exact same across 50 different cities.

The other thing I would watch out for...fewer stations in the really small markets.

Please tell me what city outside of NYC has more then a few good radio station that are better then Satellite or Spotify. Then tell us what your taste in music is so we know why you might think that.

My sister works in radio and just texted me saying 99x is the next one to go. This literally leaves nothing unless you like Rock 100.5. I can't believe that these top 40 formats actually do well. You can't even call that crap music. I'm most upset about Dave FM going away.

Maybe San Francisco, but your point is well taken.

I listen to nothing but Spotify in my car, so radio is a non-issue for me.

Atlanta radio is TERRIBLE as large cities go. Worst in America actually.
