I didn't like the streetcar line at first. But once I saw what they were planning as far as connecting it with the Beltline, I was on board.

Over time, I have come around more to the idea of street cars in some areas of Atlanta. I think a line running down to Turner Field and over towards the Zoo would be a great idea. I hope that this downtown streetcar is just the start of another transit network.

Except this streetcar line goes nowhere and will do nothing to help transportation in the area. What does it connect that really needs connecting?
Don't mind him, his anti-MARTA.
Besides the streetcar is being funded by a TIGER II grant and local matching funds from city of Atlanta and MARTA. As others have stated this is just a starter line, link the H-Street starter line in DC, Charlotte, Houston, etc. Several cities across America use these starter lines to showcase the improvements in streetcar technology from the early 20th century. The current MARTA HRT system is a great backbone and using streetcar lines can extend the reach of rail-based transit to thousands more people and business districts for a lot less than HRT, but more than buses.
Just for corndog: GO team MARTA!
