I guess people are texting and whatnot, but presumably not talking. I've had two friends try to call me from the train when I was at the station to pick them up, without success.

If you are standing near the door, or if you are zoned out listening to your headphones, there are snatch and grab thieves who might yank the phone out of your hand and run.

That, and car break-ins in parking lots, are by far the biggest crime issues with MARTA.
Both very preventable crimes if the victim takes the necessary steps.

Victims shouldn't have to hide thier phones and clutch their belongings.

How about telling people not to steal.

Its about being responsible. The signs at almost every parking lot/garage say "out of sight, out of mind." Its easy to place valuables in the trunk. With cell phones, people can still use them, just look up every once in awhile and know whose around you.
People are always going to steal, been happening forever. Animals steal from each other, why would humans be any different?

I think you're missing the point, cqholt. People should be able to use something as ubiquitous as a cell phone without worrying about people stealing it.

According to your argument, women should be responsible with what they wear. Animlas rape each other, why would humans be any different? It's easy for women to dress conservatively.

When does that argument defending the criminals end? I hope you are never summonsed for jury duty.

I am not defending the criminals, just saying that those 2 types of theft are very preventable. It takes little time and effort on the victims part. I think that people need to take more responsibility on not being the victim of a crime. How hard is to to place valuables in the trunk and be aware of your surroundings, is that too much to ask?
PS, already served jury duty!

Take more responsibility? You say that as if its the victims fault.

These crimes are 100% preventable if the little jackasses who steal phones out of their owner's hands quit doing it.

It also takes little time and effort on the criminal's part. I think that criminals need to take more responsibility for, like, stealing stuff out of people's hands. How hard is it to not to steal? Is not stealing too much to ask?

No, but measures can be taken to make a crime like this harder. As easy as putting valuables in the car's trunk. Unless you have dead hookers in there its got the room.

Been happening since the man first evolved, it will never stop. So we should take steps to prevent and/or make it harder for the criminals.

Except crime and theft will always exists and you will have to live with the fact that it will always occasionally happen.

This shouldn't be a cause for alarm and shouldn't make people fear taking public transit because a few isolated incidents such as this.

Anytime, you are in the public, you will always have a small chance of being a victim of crime. That's just life.
