Hi all,
Can someone advice a good elementary/middle school in Forsyth with smaller classes and good student/teacher ratio? We are looking for the house in this area and we already had a chance to see some schools - they are HUGE!! Now we live in Cobb (which I hate to leave, but we have to move closer to DH's work) and our school is so small and cosy, my child get a lot of personal attention from the teachers and feel very comfortable there. I am afraid we will not have this luxury in Forsyth

Please advice! We consider Fulton schools too, but the houses are more expensive there.

I have been looking into options for our future. We have family in Forsyth so I looked at the information online about the schools and their student/teacher ratios seem highest of all the highly rated schools in Georgia. I think all Forsyth schools are really big. My cousin's family moved there for the schools but pay for private schools right now b/c of the class sizes at the local elementary.

this is what we are afraid of ( The houses prices are great, but it would be so sad to find out finally that we have to shell out for a private school (

Forsyth Elementary schools range from ~600 Student to ~1200, At the elementary school level School size is not overly importation, as they are more or less in 1 classroom (4/5 grader start to move around a little). I think class size it targeted for 22/23:1 in the Elementary.

The Middle school all are around 1000 students. But buy in large the 6 / 7 / 8 grader are in separate halls. The MS work in Teams. Each team having about 100 students per team and those 100 more or less intermixing and moving around between 4 team class room teachers, and some of the move off to the "Extras" PE/Band/Art etc. each period.

There are a number of students that cross teams due to there individual needs.

Just visited Kelly Mill School. There are ~22 kids in a class in Kindergardet level and 30 (!!!) in 5th grade.

Kelly Mill ES just opened in Aug 2012, So they might be right sizing there teacher to student numbers. I look at there website the Photo names 5 teacher and 1 para-pro for 5th grade . As of start of school it had 156 Students to 5/1 teachers giving 26:1 As the real estate market improves, that is one of the growing area. But at this point in the year they won't split the classes.

If the 5th grade population grows they will add more teachers/para-pro's (btw: most of the para-pro's are teachers who could not find a teaching job). To do team teaching, but wont split up the classes. That would be more disruptive to every one.

KellyMill Feeds 3 middle school Vickery Liberty Otwell, depending on where you live.

By total student count: I think there are some small elementary schools (Medlock Bridge, Findley Oaks) in Fulton county, but the middle schools seem mostly larger.

BTW, is 30 students too big for a 5th grade class? I think that sounds alright. Kids need to know to be independent.

When they go to middle school, the jump in independence is huge. From mollycoddling thru elementary, to go catch your own bus in middle.
